Wayne Hall Andrews, 91, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 in Brownsville, Texas.

Mr. Andrews was born on February 15, 1920 to Wayne Andrews and Agnes Hall in Livingston, Texas.
In 1940 he became a radio operator with the Merchant Marines. In 1942 he flew with Pan American Airways as a radio operator in Brownsville for 8 years and in Miami, Florida for 2 years. He also worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in 1952. Then in 1953 he worked for Union Carbide and Hydrocal for 10 years. Mr. Andrews worked for PUB at the Brownsville Power Plant and then returned to the Merchant Marines between 1963 and 1968. In 1969 he worked for an oil rig company and in 1972 he returned to PUB at the power plant until his retirement in 1985.

Wayne was very active in life, an avid tennis player and ballroom dancer. Wayne learned to dance in his early years at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Miami, Florida.

Mr. Andrews is preceded in death by his parents, Agnes Hall and Wayne Andrews; brother, Maurice Andrews; first spouse, Angela and second spouse, Estella.

Mr. Andrews is survived by his loving wife, Elvira Abrego Lerma who he happily married on December 16, 1998; son, Wayne (Paula) Andrews Jr.; 2 granddaughters, Tammy Gonzalez (Peter) and Kimberly Chavez (Rolando); 5 great grandchildren, Harley Fernandez, Jason Gonzalez, Zoe Chavez, Lacee-Ann Chavez, and Xander Chavez; 4 step-children, Jaime Lerma, George Lerma, Veronica Villarreal and Nelda Garcia (Daniel); 4 step-grandchildren, Monica Lynn Avila, Richard Avila, Joseph Villarreal and Leanna Villarreal.

All services will take place at Good Shepherd Community Church, 300 W. Morrison Road, Brownsville, TX.

Viewing will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, October 12, 2011 with the Funeral Service to begin at 3 pm and interment to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.

I had the privilege of working with Wayne at the Union Carbide plant in Brownsville. In fact, he use to give me a ride to work when we only had one car. He was a deep thinker and a good hard worker. My prayers are with the family.
