When diagnosed with brain cancer (GBM) March 31, 2011, Wayne's response was "we'll fight this"; and he did, living the words he so strongly believed, "never give up". Wayne's battle ended peacefully at home in the comfort of family. Wayne's extensive hockey resume originated in Winnipeg at CPHS and further developed at the University of Manitoba where, for over a decade, he was an integral part of the men's ice hockey team, as a player, and then coach. His career behind the bench spanned university, national, international and NHL levels for over three decades, with his proudest achievement being an Olympic gold in 2002 to accompany the silver from 1992. While hockey was Wayne's career and passion, family was his pride and joy. The world was never too big for him to plan family holidays and celebrations, especially summers in BC and Christmases in Switzerland. He will be so sadly missed by his wife, Carolyn; children, Angie (Ulf), Allie (Tony), Jarett (Brendene), Jordan (Arden); grandchildren Yannek, Kiara, Mikela, Kian, Ava, Jacob, Josh; parents Jake and Mary; sister, Jennifer; the Bell family; extended family; friends and colleagues near and far. A celebration of Wayne's life will be held in July, with details to be announced at a later date. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
