Wayne Gerald Lyford, 62, went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday; April 4, 2010.

He was born in Milo, ME on August 28, 1947, a son of the late Merle & Jennie Lyford. Wayne graduated from Milo High School and later attended the University of Southern Maine. Wayne married his best friend Cindy Main on January 7, 1984. Wayne retired from New England Telephone, now Fairpoint, after 36 years of dedicated service.

He was a long time member of the Winslow Baptist Church and played a very active role there. Church & God were a big part of Wayne's life.

His greatest enjoyment in life was his family. Wayne was very active in his children's lives. He attended all of their events, from soccer and basketball games, gymnastics, dance recitals and much more. He was also there for his wife and children. Wayne also enjoyed family time with his brothers and sisters, playing cards with his brothers, and big family get togethers. Wayne was very much a hard worker and an extremely loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He had strong values and great ethics which he has passed on to the very many people that he has touched throughout his life.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife of 26 years Cindy Lyford; his seven children, Josh Lyford and wife Denise of CA, Tho Fournier and husband David, Duy, Hanh, Jordan, Janelle and Tram Lyford; four grandchildren, Braeden, Tracey, CJ and Isabelle; his four sisters and four brothers; Roberta Thulin and husband Don, of VA, Bea Knowles and her husband Reggie, Peggy Valvo and her husband Bob of CT, Joyce Carlson, of MA, Ronnie Lyford and his wife Lottie, Stanley Lyford and wife Nadine, Dave Lyford and his wife Lettie, Jack Lyford and his wife Lynn; sister in-law Connie Lyford; as well as many special nieces and nephews, and especially his niece who was like a sister, Laurel. Also surviving him are his mother in-law and father in-law Barbara and Richard Maschino and many other special in-laws and close friends.

He was predeceased by his brothers Austin and Donald.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 PM on Friday, April 9, 2010 at Veilleux Funeral Home, 8 Elm Street, Waterville. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, April 10 at the Winslow Baptist Church .

To my brother, Wayne, and his wonderful family.
We all have our ups and downs, and we've had our share this year. However I am grateful for God's grace as Wayne and I had a wonderful conversation just before he went back to the hospital for the last time. We talked about our days growing up on the farm and a lot of other stuff. He was feeling good after his transfusion, so got his sense of humor back. Told me he only had one pair of socks a year and they would get so bad (dirtwise) that all he had to do was call to them and they would stand right up and go to him I told him I have bunions on both feet as we got one pair of shoes, in Sept. and when our feet grew too fast we would have to pray the glue came loose on the sole so it would give our toes more room! Dad would get out his glue pot and put it back together...good as new?
My latest memory will stay with me always, he went to the Alegash with us while we spread the ashes of Rob and Roland. I was ok up to that point, then reality set in, and Wayne was there to dry my tears. Bro, you sure were a wonderful person and you had a sweet wife by your side, and all those wonderful children. Have a glorious life, I know you'll be there waiting for us with the rest of our family. God's Blessing and Grace upon you. Love, sister Roberta

Cindy- I am so glad you handed the phone to Wayne that Thursday when you called. So glad we had some time to talk. I know his prayers were answered and I am happy for him. I would have loved to grow much older together but I will need to be patient until we are reunited. I am so happy you found each other and adore your family. They all had a place in your hearts the day you first knew of them and they have given you joys a hundredfold. My love to you, Cindy, Josh, Tho, Duy, Jordan, Janelle, Hanh, and Tram. Miss you much, Wayne. Love, Laurel

Wayne, God called you home to be with Him. I can only imagine how it feels to be in His presence. It must be awesome! God called you home earlier then I was ready, But, I know He knew what was best for you. He received the most precious man into His kingdom on Easter. You "arose " with Him. The kids and I love you, Wayne. We will get through this because we not only have lots of wonderful memoies, but we know we will be reunited with you one day. And,God is with us ALWAYS. I know you are watching over us. I MISS YOU!!!!!!
