Wayne Morrison

Wayne Andrew Morrison, much loved husband, Dad, brother and friend to many, passed away peacefully at the age of 69, on October 12, 2021 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Pat Morrison of Norwood, Ontario. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, and son Rick (Andrea) of Yellowknife; Heather, mother of daughters Holly (John) and Laramie (James) of Ottawa; daughter April (Rick) of Sooke, British Columbia; grandchildren Max, Leo, Henry, West, Reed, Kramer, Scarlett, and Chandler; special cousins Beryl and Dick of Paris, Texas; and sister Melody of Ottawa.

Wayne grew up on a farm near Colborne, Ontario. As a teen, he played football and junior hockey. He was a proud Morrison with a strong handshake and a restless and adventurous spirit. He travelled to the Yukon in his early twenties and from then on, the North was forever in his blood and his heart. Wayne had a proud legacy of building homes and infrastructure in many communities throughout Canada's North. He also spent 10 years in Russia doing the same in far northern communities there for FSC, a Yellowknife-based company. He learned to speak fluent Russian. He owned Holly Homes Construction and the Forty Below, Yellowknife's first indoor golf centre and bar, and was most recently the Town Superintendent for Pickle Lake in northern Ontario.

He loved the North, golf, the news, the Montreal Canadiens, the Green Bay Packers, the Atlanta Braves, and country music. He was never happier than watching sports with his son and his friends. He could do a mean two-step. Wayne was a great cook and maker of pickles. He was a master storyteller and had a treasure chest to share with new and old friends and family. He will be forever remembered and much loved as a good and kind man. Ole, Ole, Ole, Wayne. Rest peacefully.
