Wayne Owsley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 12, 2018.
Rev. Wayne M. Owsley, 92 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 10, 2018 in his home.
Born May 30, 1926, in Harrogate, Tennessee, Wayne was the son of the late Robert Nelson and Nancy Viola (Edwards) Owsley.
Wayne served his country honorably and proudly in the United States Army during WWII. He served from 1944 to 1947 and was stationed in the Philippines.
On May 18, 1947, Wayne married his beloved wife, the former Freda May Guy, in Harrogate, Tn. The couple moved to Monroe in January of 1949. Sadly, she preceded him in death on September 21, 2005, after 58 years of marriage. Both he and his wife went back to school and were graduates of Jefferson High School.
Wayne was employed for 30 years as a welder at Ford Motor Company's Monroe Plant. He retired in September of 1980. After his retirement from Ford he went to work for Jefferson Schools as a sub. custodian where he worked for 3 years.
Wayne became an ordained minister in 1961. He received his Bachelor's of Ministry in 2014 and his Master's in Ministry in 2017 at the age of 91. He was the pastor of the following churches; Bedford Missionary Baptist Church, Castalia Baptist Church, Belleview Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist Church, and Faith Baptist Church. He also preached Gospel at many other churches.
Wayne was a Charter Member of Heritage Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, tending to his lawn and spending time on his computer. Most of all he enjoyed time spent with family.
Wayne is survived by two loving children: Wanda I. Owsley of Monroe and Roger (Debra) Owsley of Fayetteville, N.C., and two cherished grandchildren; Stacy Owsley of Tucson, AZ, and Rochell "Stormy" (Scott) Adkins of Cedar Falls, IA.
In addition to his parents and wife, Wayne was preceded in death by three brothers; Roland, Larnie, and Frank, and three sisters; Mildred, Opal, and Eula Grey.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-8 PM and Thursday from 12-8 PM in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd. Monroe, MI, 48161 where funeral services celebrating his life will be held on Friday, September 14, 2018, at 11:00 AM. The Rev. Harold Raymond, pastor of Dundee Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park where the VFW Post 1138 will conduct military honors.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Building Fund at Heritage Baptist Church.
