Wayne Morris Souder, 70

MADISON -- Wayne Morris Souder, age 70, of Madison, died Saturday, Nov. 1, 2008, at his home. Born June 6, 1938, in Scaggsville, he was son of the late Amos Edward Souder II and Mildred Leona Poe Souder. Mr. Souder was a direct descendent of the famous poet and author Edgar Allan Poe. Mr. Souder was educated in Bladensburg and received his GED through the U.S. Marine Corp. Mr. Souder was a U.S. Marine veteran having served from Jan. 29, 1956, to January 28, 1959. He received an honorable discharge in 1959. Mr. Souder worked for Sunshine Biscuit and owned and operated his own printing business before working and retiring from Exxon in 1991. On Sept. 15, 1960, he married the former Charlotte C. Shifflet. Mr. Souder was a member of the Cambridge Moose Lodge and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid outdoorsman and liked to hunt and fish. Mr. Souder was also a creative craftsman. Surviving is his wife of 48 years, Charlotte V. Souder of Madison; three children, Linda Williams and her husband Jimmy and Wayne M. Souder II and his wife Linda, all from Taylors Island, and Cindy Parks and her husband Ben of Cambridge. Also surviving is a stepdaughter, Donna Carr and her husband Bruce; and two stepsons, Bill Disney and his wife Germaine and Dale Disney and his wife Laura. He was also the proud Pop Pop of 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Barbara Ireland and her husband Vern of Madison; three brothers, Amos Souder and his wife Charlotte of Laurel, Craig Arnold and his wife Sue of Stevensville, and Wilmer Arnold and his wife Karen of Barclay; a sister-in-law, Jean Souder; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding him in death besides his parents were a son, Timothy Lee Souder; a brother, Larry Souder; and stepfather, Lawrence Arnold. A celebration of life service with military honors will be held at Curran-Bromwell Funeral Home at 1 p.m. today, where the family will receive friends two hour prior to the service. The decedent's cousin, David Holder, will lead the service. Burial will be held privately at a later date at The Maryland Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial offerings may be made to American Cancer Society, 1138 Parsons Road, Salisbury, MD 21801; or Coastal Hospice, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, MD 21802-1733. Grandma Charlotte and Family,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. I feel blessed to have had a chance to spend time with Wayne before my move to the west coast. I was inspired by his love and dedication to his family and his never ending curiosity and ingenuity. He will be missed.
