Wayne Westgor Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 13, 2013.
Westgor, Wayne W. 91, a resident of Friendship Village in Bloomington went home to be with the Lord Jesus on the morning of January 9th, 2013. Wayne was born in Slayton, MN on June 26th, 1921 and served our great country in the US Air Force during WWII. Wayne was a devout Christian and loving family man. He married his beloved wife Marta Leal in 1943 and they enjoyed just shy of 70 wonderful years together. Wayne is survived by his children, Jerry (Jo), Bette (Bo), Barbara (Anthony), Jeff (Patrice); 4 grandchildren, Christian, Christopher, Travis and Andrew; and 3 great- grandchildren, Annika, Carson and Addie. Throughout his life, Wayne was a successful entrepreneur and businessman who cofounded HMBA (Hotel Motel Brokers Association) which was the largest association for hotel/motel brokers in the country. In addition to his for-profit ventures, he was also passionate about helping others and giving to non-profit ministries. In the late 70's, he played a key role in the launching of Tentmakers, a Christ-centered training organization that has trained over 15,000 individuals to date. Wayne was a born dealmaker who was always willing to help and worked hard to make others happy. He had such a zeal for life with such genuine love for people that it was extremely difficult, if not impossible, to find someone who didn't in some way love and appreciate him. His personality was friendly, positive, outgoing and enthusiastic. He was a true people person that could light up a room with his presence. In the past few years of his life, Wayne often commented on how fulfilling he and Marta's lives were together as residents of Friendship Village and he was always so thankful and complimentary of the staff there. While at Friendship Village, he founded The Monarch Ministry which enabled him to share his faith and impart hope to others through the story of the monarch butterfly. He was fascinated by both the transformation and long journey of the monarch. He would often say "If God can guide a butterfly thousands of miles to the same destination in Mexico every year, then how much more will He guide our spirits." Wayne W. Westgor was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed by all who were so blessed to know him. Interment Fort Snelling Cemetery. Funeral service 11 AM Tuesday with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at: www.Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996 West 50th St. & Hwy 100

Westgor family - we will miss Wayne. Had always enjoyed talking to him at church and discussions. One has a feeling someone is missing when on Sunday you look over and see Jerry, Jo, and Travis -- no Marta nor Wayne to complete the family picture. Very sorry for your loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

To Wayne's Family:

I was so Sad when I found out that Wayne Passed Away. He was one of a kind and for sure will be missed by me and his Spirit will be always in my Heart. It was a great Pleasure knowing him and taking care of him though the Years in all the Dining Rooms. I enjoyed talking to him about the Butterflies and about his Life and with Wife. He is so sweet and very kind. I also enjoyed taking care of his Wife and she will be missed too. She was so kind and sweet and I also enjoyed talking to him and Wayne. Mat you find comfort in the days ahead and that their memories will always be with you and when you see a Butterfly Flying just remember Wayne is always there. God Bless You.
