MARSHALL — Funeral services for Wenard Hill Sr., 61, of Marshall, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at St. John Baptist Church. Interment will follow in St. John Baptist Cemetery. A time of visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. today, April 5, 2013, at Downs Funeral Home.
Wenard Hill Sr. was born July 31, 1951, in Harrison County, to the parents of Emid D. Hill and Marie Balous Hill. He attended public school in Marshall, Texas, graduating with the class of 1969 at H.B. Pemberton High School.
Wenard worked many years at Marshall Pottery as well as Ellis Pottery. He owned and operated H&H Pottery and was a security guard at Wiley College up until his sudden death on April 1, 2013. At an early age, he united with St. John Baptist Church and served as a deacon, usher, treasurer of the usher board, member of the Male Chorus and the president of the cemetery.
He left to cherish his memories two sons, Garland B. Hill Sr. (Marisela) of New Salem, N.C., and Wenard R. Hill Jr. (Tremesheia); brother, Rev. Emid C. Hill (Rosalyn) of Arlington, Texas; and three sisters, Blenda H. Manning, Yulonder Smith and Lawanda Hill of Lewisville, Texas. He also left behind seven grandkids; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and an uncountable number of friends.
