Wendell Russell, 85, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Lakehaven Nursing Home. He was born on January 4, 1927 in Thomas County, GA to the late James E. and Lucille Sasser Russell. Mr. Russell worked in automotive parts service and sales, was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard and a member of Perimeter Road Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Nadine L. Russell of Valdosta, two sons and daughters in law, James (Jim) and Anita Russell of Leesburg, GA and Richard and Cindy Russell of Crawfordville, FL, eight grandchildren, Shannon Thomas (Andy), Jason Russell (Hannah), Stephanie Purvis (Josh), Sloan Russell, Sarah Marie Russell, Tara Huggins (Matthew), Jordan Russell and Matt Russell, four great grandchildren, Ava Thomas, Drew Thomas, Cade Purvis and Nora Kate Purvis, one sister, Miriam Knight of Thomasville. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday, December 14, 2012 at two p. m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Reverend Brian Anderson and Mr. Charlie Fleetwood officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 p. m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanecares.com. Carson McLane Funeral Home.
