Wendell Sisson

Mr. Wendell Quentin (Pay) Sisson, 71, of Woodstock, GA, passed away December 22nd, 2014 at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta. Wendell and his family were long time residents of Coalfield. He was born on January 14th, 1943 in Oliver Springs, TN to the late William David and Beulah Sisson. After graduating from Coalfield High School, where he played football and basketball, Wendell attended college in Tennessee, and earned his BSA at Tennessee Technical University. Wendell enjoyed a career as a science teacher at several schools throughout Tennessee and Georgia, including Coalfield, his alma mater, and lastly at Northwest Georgia/Dade County High. While working as a teacher, he also attended Chattanooga State's School of Nursing. Shortly before retiring from education, he began a second career as a Registered Nurse, working for Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga and retiring from Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Ga as a cardiac nurse.
Wendell loved football, and was a fan of the University of Tennessee. He was a proud papaw to Taylor "Tay Tay" and Shawn "The Big Boy". He enjoyed cooking, old movies, cars, motorcycles, science, and history, especially WWII History. The thing in his life he loved the most was his daughter, Amber. Wendell was an extremely devoted and loving father. He will be missed more than words can say.
He was preceded in death by both parents, and two brothers, WD Sisson, Jr and Ronnie Sisson. Wendell is survived by his daughter, Amber Sisson and grandchildren Taylor and Shawn Savors of Woodstock, GA; sister, Ruth Huddleston, of Oliver Springs, TN; brothers, Warren Sisson, and wife Janice of Oak Ridge, TN; Harry Sisson, and wife Marilyn of Marietta, GA; Perry Sisson and wife Penny of Cohutta, GA; sister-in-law, Patsy Sisson of Oak Ridge, TN; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Wendell is also survived by former spouse and long time friend, Susan Borts of Marietta, GA; former spouse, and significant other, Marcenia Sisson, of Sale Creek, TN.
A special thank you from Amber to Reagan O'Connor and the nursing staff on 3 South, at Piedmont Hospital who grew very fond of Wendell over the last few months, her aunt and uncle Harry and Marilyn Sisson, as well as her employer Grace Hill for all their support during this difficult time.
A celebration of Wendell's life will be held on his birthday, Wednesday, January 14th , 2015 at 4:00pm at Woodstock Funeral Home, 8855 Main St, Woodstock, GA 30188 with Reverend Neil Hasty officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior.
