Wesley Duewel Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2016.
Dr. Wesley L. Duewel

99, of Greenwood, passed away on March 5, 2016. He was born June 3, 1916, in St. Charles, MO, to the late Louis and Ida Luelf Duewel. Dr. Duewel gave himself to world missions for 75 years. After ministry in India for nearly 25 years, he was president of One Mission Society (1969-1982). He was a member of the Wabash Conference of the Free Methodist Church for 48 years.

From early childhood, Dr. Duewel had a deep love for the Word of God. His writings and poems on the Holy Spirit, revival, and soul winning call God's people back to prayer, the source of all power for ministry and express his hunger and passion. More than 2.5 million copies of his ten books are in 58 languages worldwide.

Recognized as an authority on missions, Dr. Duewel served for 16 years on board of directors of Missio Nexus (formerly Evangelical Fellowship of Mission Agencies), as president 1969-1972, 19 years on North American Board of World Evangelical Fellowship, 20 years on board of National Association of Evangelicals, and a life trustee of Asbury Theological Seminary. In 2007, Missio Nexus honored him by presenting its first-ever Lifetime of Service Award. In 2009, Evangelical Fellowship of India presented him the "Lifetime Service Award in recognition of his servant leadership exemplified to the Body of Christ and faithful contribution to the Church and Mission in India."

He was prominent in leadership of North India Christian Literature Society, and Bible Society of India. He helped spearhead Evangelical Fellowship of India and was its president until he was transferred from India.

Dr. Duewel held the degrees of Doctor of Education from University of Cincinnati and Doctor of Divinity from Taylor University. His articles appeared in many publications, and for 12 years he edited Revival Magazine, published in 12 languages. He ministered in 45 countries.

For years, Dr. Duewel taught a senior adult Sunday school class. He enjoyed sharing his testimony to God's faithfulness, with a deep concern for unevangelized millions and a constant emphasis upon prayer as key to harvest and revival.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth Dolly Raisch, and is survived by one son, John Wesley (Retno); two daughters—Christine Zahniser (Ed) and Darlene Rueger (Terry); 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; and current wife of 7 years, Hilda Mae Johnecheck.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 from 10 a.m. to 12:00, at West Morris Street Free Methodist Church, 2302 W. Morris St., Indianapolis, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 12 Noon. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Greenwood. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Duewel Memorial Fund, #408169, One Mission Society, PO Box A, Greenwood, IN 46142. Arrangements entrusted to G. H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home. Dr. Duewel's books speak life and love into the coming revivals in the world and church. I'm just now sharing my book collection with others. These messages are a blessing to me personally and I want others to continue to know about his book collection. Praising God always as a revivalist in the days before our Lord Jesus returns.

Dr. Duewel is still making an impact on my life and the friends I recommended his books to and we are now interceding for Ukraine and the nations of the world. How I will love meeting Dr. Wesley in heaven someday. Love in Jesus, Roxanne

Though it is 2 years after his passing, his books continue to have great influence. He was born before Mandela and Dr Billy Graham even! Wow! What a life and testimony! May our gracious sovereign God be with his family and reward him brilliantly in Heaven. He receives crowns of prayer, love for the Word of God, obedience to Jesus, a lifetime of Christ-honouring service and indeed, the pleasure of being in the presence of his Lord and Intercessor in Heaven too! He had no idea of me or even so many people in South Africa, but I truly appreciate his book, "Mighty Prevailing Prayer" now! I am fighting against Satan and forces of darkness. The Lord is my help and stronghold destroyer. Thank you, Legacy.com.A great obituary.Praise God. Amen.

The book Mighty Prevailing Prayer was used by God when my husband and I were first going out and God powerfully prompted me to read study and apply this book again.
Thankyou God for the reality of Mighty Prevailing Prayer and this book.

How the angels must have rejoiced when Dr. Wesley DuewellI entered heaven to be reunited with his Savior. May God comfort those of us who remain behind, especially his dear family. My life was also changed by Dr. Duewell's book "Mighty Prevailing Prayer" and I took him up on his invitation to write. I am thankful for the encouragement of his life and intend to read the rest of his books. God bless all those he loved.

I am so sorry to find out about Dr. Deuwel's passing. I picked up his book called "Mighty Prevailing Prayer". It is one of the most powerful
books that I have ever read. Excluding the Bible of course. I had hoped to write him a short "Thank You" . Then to find out he is almost a century old.
Just Proving that the word of God is ever alive throughout all time.
May God Bless your family and friends during this time. His book has certainly blessed me!!

Dr.Wesley Duewel was my dad's(Rev.A.Amos) teacher and principal. He often used to visit our house in Delhi. I have been blessed by many of his seminars on prayer. After dad's passing away , Dr.Duewel had personally encouraged me very much through e.mails. He always was supportive to the ministry we were involved in. Having known Him for more than 4 decades I will always remember him as a "Man of Prayer" and "Passionate writer".

We continue to prayers for Hilda.

One the greatest blessings of my missionary years with OMS in India was the opportunity to be a co-worker with Dr. Duewel. His love for Jesus and his praying and teaching and untiring efforts to share the Good News with those without the Savior were an inspiring example and continuing challenge to all of us privileged to serve with him-- truly a great man of God and valued personal friend who was always, and only "All for Jesus".
