Dr. Wesley William Fisher Dr. Wesley William Fisher, Jr. passed away at the Greater Regional Hospice in Creston on October 1, 2010. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on October 16th at the First Methodist Church in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday Oct. 15th, with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the Powers Funeral home junction of highways 34 and 25 in Creston. As he wished Wesley was cremated. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Greater Regional Hospice or the First Methodist Church. Online condolences may be given under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com Wesley was born in Youngstown, Ohio on June 8, 1921 to Dr. Wesley W. Fisher, Sr. and Lucy Miner Fisher. As a child Wes lived in Wheeling, West Virginia, Niagara Falls, New York, and Cleveland, Ohio where in 1938 he graduated from Shaw High School in East Cleveland. Wesley received his doctorate in optometry from Northern Illinois College of Optometry in 1942, moved to Iowa soon after graduation and practiced optometry in Creston for over 50 years. He married Mary Kocher in Creston on July 22, 1944. Mary preceded him in death on December 4, 2003 after 59 years of marriage. In April of 2005 he married Barbara Thomsen in Creston who died in January 2009 Dr. Fisher was a member and past president of the Iowa Optometric Association, the Creston Elks, and Crestmoor Golf Club where he twice shot a hole in one. He was an avid duck and pheasant hunter and fisherman. Wes and Mary enjoyed world travel especially with Creston friends and wintered in Chapala, Mexico for 30 years. Dr. Fisher had been a big city kid who often stated that Creston was just about the best place in the world to live and work and was so pleased he had found it. Wes is survived by his daughters Jeanne (Patrick) Collison of Yankton, South Dakota and Dianne (Alan) Fox of Perryville, Maryland. He is also survived by grandchildren Dr. Elizabeth (Andrew) Walker of Iowa City, Dr. Frederick Collison and wife Dr. Hannah Lundberg, Cincinnati, Ohio, Dewey Fox and Wesley Fox of Baltimore, Maryland, Carl Collison of Vermillion, South Dakota, great grandchildren Devon and Grace Walker, and a sister in law, Bess Fisher of Painesville, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wives, parents, and brother Dr. Laurence M. Fisher. As he wished Wesley was cremated. http://memorial.yourtribute.com/fisherweswebdvd/
