Whitney Dumas Obituary

DUMAS SR., WHITNEY P. "BUCKWHEAT" A retired employee of Avondale Shipyard and a veteran, he died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at Terrebonne General Hospital. He was 78, a native and resident of Vacherie. Visiting at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Vacherie, from 8 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. Friday, conducted by the Rev. Michael Miceli. Burial in church cemetery. Survived by his wife, Leona S. Dumas; four daughters, Mary Smith, Sally Westley, Cynthia D. Himes and Ailien Ferchaud; six sons, Nicholas, Whitney Jr., Harvey, Matthew, Timothy and Brian Dumas; three brothers, Paul, Russell and Anthony Dumas; three sisters, Wilbourine Steib, Mary Freeman and Celeste James; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Rose Dumas; a daughter, Marie Rose Dumas; three brothers, Harry, John and Haywood Dumas; and two sisters, Agnes Wooden and Victoria Simon. He was a member of the Good Children Society, American Legion Post 565 and Knights of Peter Claver Council 161. Williams & Southall Funeral Home, Napoleonville, in charge of arrangements.
