Wilder F. McDaniel, 77, of Chester, died Monday, January 31, 2005 at his residence. A native of Toledo, Ohio, he was a son of the late Floy Adams and Addie Tuggle McDaniel. He was a retired personnel specialist for the U.S. Government, a Marine veteran having served in World War II, and a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, Petersburg. Mr. McDaniel Wilder was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret A. McDaniel, and mother of his children. His greatest love was his family, church and music. He is survived by his wife, Anne Bass McDaniel; a daughter and son-in-law, K. Adele and James Glensky of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas W. and Lore McDaniel of Lynchburg; three stepchildren, Ray Davis Jr. and wife, Dr. Sarah Hadden, of Charlottesville, Donald B. Davis of Newport News, and Zotelia Mae Elliott and husband, Ray, of Chester; 10 grandchildren, Allyson Mays, Loren Glensky, Ashley McDaniel, Brad McDaniel, Graham Davis, Victoria Davis, Lena Davis, Julia Davis, Daniel Elliott and Kevin Elliott; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 3, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of E. Alvin Small Funeral Homes and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Rev. Betsy Baseshore will officiate. Interment will follow in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church Cemetery, Moseley, Va. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Washington Street United Methodist Church, 22 East Washington Street, Petersburg, Va. 23803.
