THELMA BENTON

Funeral service for Thelma Benton, age 86, of New Smyrna Beach, who died Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at her home, will be 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 24 at Settle-Wilder's New Smyrna Beach chapel. Burial will follow at Edgewater-New Smyrna Cemetery, Edgewater. Calling hours will be 4:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, June 23 at the funeral home. Born in Beaufort, South Carolina, Mrs. Benton, a retired supervisor for Bealls Department Store, moved to this area in 1944. A member of Samsula Baptist Church and the Women's Bowling Association, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, bowling, reading, country music, and dancing. Most of all Mrs. Benton loved her family. Survivors include four daughters, Jean Horn (Buddy) of New Smyrna Beach, Barbara Allen of Ormond Beach, Linda Pearl McDonald (Michael) of New Smyrna Beach, and Patricia Allen of Ormond Beach; twp sons, H.A. "Lucky" Jr. (Stella) of Edgewater and Steven (Kathy) of Lake Ashby, Florida; 15 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Benton was preceded in death by her husband, H.A. "Hank" Sr., and two grandsons, H.A. "Little Lucky" Benton and Joshua Watson.
