Willard Britt Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 27, 2022.
Willard F. Britt, Jr. of Boulder, CO, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at age 81. He was a loving partner of Mary Pat for 30+ years, proud father of his beautiful daughter, Brenda, cherished 'little brother' of Marjorie, with whom he was the co-owner of Brown Palace Apartments at 1680 6th Street in Boulder. He loved his tenants and considered them to be part of his Boulder family. Willard was born in Boulder on January 12, 1941 and was a life-long resident of Boulder. He was the owner of Alpine Chevron at 9th and Broadway for 25 years, a #1 Chevron station in a five-state region. He loved and cared for his customers. After Chevron moved out of Colorado, he became a school bus driver for Boulder Junior Academy, for over 15 years. He loved the students who rode his bus. Where did all of these imprints of Love come from, how is Legacy and Boulder a part of it? His father, Willard F. Britt, Sr. was the Founder of Britt Truck Service located at 1033-37 Walnut in downtown Boulder. The land and buildings were later sold to the Boulder Daily Camera. Britt Truck Service operated a fleet of about 25 trucks which hauled ore from Colorado mines for shipment to processing plants. It was also the International Harvester dealership. Willard Britt, Sr. was one of the early entrepreneurs in Boulder. His picture is found on page 123 in the book "Boulder, Evolution of a City" by Silvia Petten. He was very active with the Boulder Pow Wow, riding pick-up man for bucking bronc riders, and the Britt family always rode horseback in the Pow Wow parade. He was involved in civic organizations, including the Elks Club, and always loved being part of the Christmas parties for children there. His mother, Merle L. Britt Brown, a graduate nurse, stayed home to raise their children and then later became a nurse to the Medical Director of the Boulder Sanitarium and Hospital at 4th and Mapleton. In their childhood and teenage years, Willard, Jr. and Marjorie were actively involved in the Seventh Day Adventist church at the same location. After Willard Sr.'s death, Willard loved his stepdad, Dow A. Brown, and cared for him for the last seven years of his life, 24/7, after he had a stroke. It was when he met his Beloved Mary Pat, his Dad's visiting nurse. Willard, Jr. loved his roles as a Deacon and then an Elder in the Adventist Church, to which he returned in his mid-life years, when they welcomed him and opened their arms in a time when he needed to find God again. Pastor Darrell Rott and Pastor Stephen King, who were so significant in Willard's life, will officiate at Willard's Celebration of Life service on Friday, April 29 at 12 Noon at the Boulder Adventist Church at 345 Mapleton Avenue in Boulder. His sister Dr. Marj Britt, a Unity minister, will facilitate the weaving in of Love Stories from Willard's 'Boulder family' who attend. A Processional to Green Mountain Cemetery will follow, arriving there at 2pm. Contributions in honor of Willard Britt can be made to the Boulder Seventh Day Adventist Church or to the Boulder Humane Society. Willard was a lover of God and also of cats!

So sorry to hear about the loss of this wonderful man. He was friendly to all. He and his good friend, Morris would stop by the church to say hi once in a while when I worked there. He will be missed.
