William Allegri Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 9, 2025.
With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude, we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend, William (Bill) Charles Allegri, who entered eternal rest, surrounded by family on July 1, 2025, at the age of 79.

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Bill carried the heart and loyalty of a true Midwesterner throughout his life-faithfully cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Cubs. Part of a large Italian family, Bill grew up steeped in tradition, music, and faith with his numerous cousins. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary, always marking each occasion with a thoughtfully chosen Hallmark card-a fitting gesture from a man born in the hometown of Hallmark itself. He graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in Kansas City, attended Conception Seminary in Conception, Missouri. He completed his Bachelor's Degree in History at St. Mary of the Plains College in Kansas. He later earned a master's degree in Theology at the Applied School of Theology in Berkeley, California, where his passion for learning and serving others deepened.

Bill met the love of his life, Kathy, in Fort Ord, California, during his service in the U.S. Army. They were married for over 55 years, a true testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, they built a life grounded in spirituality, laughter, and service-living in Pacific Grove, CA; Kansas City, MO; Pueblo West, CO, Gresham, OR, and eventually retiring in Queen Creek, Arizona.

Bill was a teacher, a counselor, a coach and above all, a constant support to everyone around him. He taught high school and served as a marriage and family counselor for Catholic dioceses in Oregon, Washington, and Colorado. Bill later fulfilled a lifelong dream opening a wine shop and Kathy's art gallery-celebrating his Italian roots and community connection. He was always ready for a deep conversation, a basketball game, or a glass of Barolo shared among friends.

He was the kind of father and grandfather who showed up for everything-from opera concerts and ballet recitals to track meets and soccer games. He never missed a chance to cheer on his children or grandchildren, whether it was a school program, basketball game, or Nutcracker performance. He was an avid basketball player until age 67. One of his great joys of recent years was attending the NCAA Finals in 2024 with his son Jason. He was an extraordinary role model as a father-teaching his children to love deeply, lead with faith, pursue their dreams and passions, and give back to the communities where they lived.

Bill is preceded in death by his parents John and Bess, and brother John Joseph. He is survived by his devoted wife Kathy; his six children: Sacha Burton (Jeff, son, Luke) of Chandler, Arizona; Jason Allegri (Esther, children John, wife Rebecca, grandchildren Aspen, Izzy, Iris, Atticus; Gabrielle and Michael) of San Diego, California; Nadja Conway (John, daughters Sarah and Caitlin) of San Jose, California; Kirsten Williams (Jon, children Rhiannon and Jack) of Rumson, New Jersey; Jonas Allegri (Jesse, daughter Dresden) of Beaverton, Oregon; and Zak Allegri, of Manhattan, New York; his sister, Sr. Michael Delores, Sisters of Charity, of Lansing, Kansas; and countless extended family, neighbors, and friends whose lives he touched with his generosity, warmth, and wisdom.

Living a life of love, laughter, deep thought, and integrity, he taught us that family is everything, curiosity is a gift, and the truest legacy is how you love the people around you. We will carry his memory in our hearts forever.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 8, 2025 at St. Juan Diego Catholic Church, 3200 S. Cooper Rd, Chandler, AZ 85286.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Bill's name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital

Bill´s relatively short time at the Conception Seminary campus belies the indelible impact he left on his classmates. Bill and I shared many happy memories on the hard court and, 57 years later, I still remember fondly when he drove a car load down to KC for a Peter, Paul, and Mary concert.
Bill lived out the biblical command "husbands, love your wives". Bill had a strong personality; but, a sure sign of his strength was how gently he loved his wife.
The picture on this site encompasses perfectly Bill´s determination, as well as his compassion, and overall contentment.
Bill has left us many lessons - perhaps the best of which, I think, is how he often ended his messages - "seek joy!"
