William Mitchell (Mickey) Basden was born Dec 27, 1936, in St. Louis, MO while his parents were visiting his paternal grandmother.

Mickey lived with his parents in Sheffield, AL until the family relocated to Galveston, TX in 1945. He attended Lovenberg Junior High School. He lived with his parents and three sisters in Corpus Christi, TX from 1951 until 1953, where he attended Miller and Ray High Schools. He graduated from high school in Angleton, TX in 1954.

Returning with his family to Corpus Christi, he attended Del Mar College.

After completing Del Mar, Mickey worked as a Process Control Chemical Analyst at Reynolds Metals Company at the La Quinta ore refining plant.

In 1959 he married Doris Ann Moore. They had three children: Elizabeth Anne, William Edward, and Rebecca Lynn.

In 1969 Mickey relocated to Victoria, TX, where he served as Manager of the Victoria office of the National Cash Register Company.

Beginning in 1977 Mickey worked at the Victoria County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff.

In 1979 Mickey relocated to Corpus Christi, where he worked as a Control System Engineer. He married Pam Ponish, whom he met in Victoria.

In 1990 Mickey and Pam moved to Colorado. Mickey worked as a consulting process control design engineer at several engineering firms in Denver. Mickey and Pam divorced after eighteen years. Mickey moved to Birmingham, AL, where he worked for Raytheon Engineering. In 2003 Mickey returned to Alice, Texas, and returned to Victoria in 2014.

Mickey could recite the entire poem The Rubaiyatt of Omar Khayyam from memory . 0ver 100 4 line stanzas! I SHOT PISTOLS WITH HIM A NUMBER OF TIMES.
