William (Bill) Daniels Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 27, 2024.
South Weymouth - William (Bill) John Daniels, 59, of South Weymouth, Massachusetts died on Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at South Shore Hospital of metastatic melanoma.

Bill was born on April 22, 1965, at Cape Cod Hospital to Anne Howland (Allen) Daniels and Robert Charles Daniels. He grew up in East Sandwich, MA, with his three siblings, Robert Daniels, Jr., deceased; Terry Halvorson of Brewster; and Jeanne Brown of East Sandwich. He is also survived by his best friend Chris Wanless (John Curley) of Lexington; three loving nieces and their partners, Josephine Halvorson (Peter Buckley) of New Marlborough; Teresa Suffoletto (Nick Suffoletto) of New Bedford; and Morgan Brown (Nathaniel Cummings) of Hyannis; as well as one great nephew, Theo Suffoletto.

Growing up, Bill enjoyed playing strategic games such as Battleship, Risk, and chess and was an avid reader of science fiction and detective novels. A 1983 graduate of Sandwich High School, Bill showed an early aptitude for math and science, taking a first-of-its-kind computer programming class and studying computer science and math at Northeastern University in Boston. While still a student, he participated in the Co-op internship program and landed a position at the Mitre Corporation in Bedford, MA. There, he met several co-workers who became lifelong friends and formed a social group, nicknamed the BGC. Among their many adventures, they skied, played golf, traveled, and spoke regularly for almost forty years.

From 1989 to 2000, Bill lived in Europe, first in Germany and later in England, working for US defense contractors and launching his career in data security. During this time, he earned a Master of Science from Boston University, expanding his knowledge of computer information systems. He also traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia, which he documented through his passion for photography. He learned about other cultures and developed interests in global music, scuba diving, and skydiving.

In his mid-thirties, Bill returned to the United States and spent the rest of his professional life in the Boston area, working in IT development and support. In 2012, Bill joined Intersystems Corporation, where he worked until shortly before he passed. His colleagues cherish Bill's tireless work ethic and friendship. A number of his clients are in the healthcare sector, and Bill was proud to know that his work was being utilized by the very hospitals that treated him in his final months.

Bill was civically engaged, always supporting his community and those in need. He volunteered for the Somerville Center for Adult Learning Experiences (SCALE) and donated to local nonprofit organizations. He enjoyed food and trying new restaurants, particularly with his best friend, Chris, following an afternoon at the movies. His family remains grateful for his steadfast support as well as the countless conversations that took place over games of cribbage, Uno, and Monopoly (most of which Bill won). He will be remembered by all who knew him for his courtesy, generosity, humility, professionalism, attention to detail, and infectious giggle. Bill always held the door open for others.

There will be a private celebration of his life in the spring. Please contact the family for more information through the obituary posted on Legacy.com, where you are also encouraged to share stories of your memories of Bill. Bill's loved ones would like to thank all of the doctors, nurses, and staff at South Shore Hospital, Mass General Brigham, and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, especially Dr Justine Cohen. Donations can be made to Dana Farber's Melanoma Treatment Center Team in Bill's name.

We were sad to learn of Bill´s passing.
Bill was our neighbor for many years he lived across the street from us in Ten Hills Somerville. We have so many fond memories ...I recall helping him set a trap for the two feral cats that were living in my yard and he gave them a forever home..:.
Bill was so kind and he cared! He helped me with my computer whenever I had an issue...always helped out for every snowstorm whether shoveling or cleaning off your car...he was friendly to everyone and such a nice guy.......our deepest condolences to all his family ..he will surely be missed.

Bill was the nicest guy, always saying hello, always willing to lend a hand. I was a neighbor of Bill's during his time in Medford. One time he saw me struggling with my car and he immediately came out with some tools. My deepest condolences to Bill's friends and family. He was full of kindness and warmth and will always be remembered.

I always enjoyed working with Bill to solve customer problems. I could count on Bill to clearly explain how the systems worked and how we should go about troubleshooting. He was an excellent colleague.

My sincere condolences to Bill's family. I worked with Bill for almost ten years and he was very supportive coworker and mentor to me. He always spoke very fondly of his sisters and his family. He was a technologist at heart and gave his best always to work. He also so helpful to anyone with a desire to learn . We worked so many late nights on IT issues and he would ensure we are fed and took care of people . May his soul rest in peace.

My condolences to Bill's family and friends, as I know he loved and admired his time with you all! I was Bill's neighbor in Medford - he was my first and friendliest neighbor, the one I knew would always say hi and hold the door for me to get into the building. He took on a lot of responsibility around our complex, a thankless job, yet always had a smile on his face. I am very sorry to hear this news, as I last spoke with him only a month or two prior to his passing. He always inquired about me and my life, never forgot an important date or event, and was always kind. If you are willing I would appreciate any information about his life celebration this Spring. I was Bill's dental hygienist. I really enjoyed seeing him; he was one of my favorite patients. I always looked forward to hearing about what movies he had seen and what he trips went on. I will miss him.

(To the family, I'd love to attend his celebration of life. If you'd be willing to contact me. I'm at [email protected]. Thank you.)
