William (Bill) Sabo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Oct. 8 to Oct. 10, 2023.
Pueblo - William (Bill) Sabo, age 85, of Pueblo, passed away Sept 26, 2023. Survived by his son, Bill (Teri); daughter, Wendy; grandchildren, Mackenzie (Barrett), Craig (Jordan); and three great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his devoted wife of 57 years, Doris Sabo in 2017. Born in Pueblo 1938; graduated from Central High 1956. He pursued higher education at Western State University for his undergraduate degree & Southern Illinois for his master's degree in mathematics. He taught math at South High from 1970-1993. Bill, better known as Coach, also lived his dream of coaching football; Head Coach at Fountain High School (1960-1969); Pueblo South (1970-1979) & an assistant coach at CSU Pueblo (1980-1982). Bill dedicated his career to teaching, mentoring, and coaching hundreds, if not thousands of students/athletes/coaches and was known for always going the extra mile to support them. He was dedicated to his family and took immense joy interacting & supporting his two grandchildren as they grew up in Arizona. You could always find him, on the sidelines cheering, coaching, taking pictures & supporting them as they pursued their goals athletically & academically. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Thunder Zone Pizza & Tap House Nov 4th at 3pm, because if you knew Coach, he would want nothing more than people to gather and have a party. Contributions can be made in Bill's memory to the Alzheimer's Association.

We have hundreds of photos of our kids and our kid's teams thanks to Bill standing in the hot AZ sun all day long watching soccer games, basketball games, softball, baseball, track & field, you name it...he was there with his camera and a great big smile on the sidelines. My photograph albums are full and the memories are priceless. Thank you Bill for making those incredible times last a lifetime!!!

One of my fondest memories was Coaches pregame speech prior to playing Wasson at Gerry Berry. Both schools were ranked in the top 10, undefeated, a series that Wasson had dominated in past years. Prior to the game we all huddled together, teammates huddled together in a tight space in the locker room. Coach talked about the Wasson syndrome and how it was ending that evening. We confidently and quietly took the field taking down the Tbirds. The hair on the back of my neck sill stands up today when I recall that special evening. Grateful to Coach and his entire staff for the sacrifices they made to make us better men and teammates.

My favorite memories of Bill are on the sidelines of the soccer fields for the boy's games. Didn't matter where the game was or what time of day it was, Bill had camera in hand taking pictures of the action. He didn't take the pictures for himself, he did it because he knew how special those times gone by would be for the kids and parents. Then of course, after the game, we would all go out to have some eats and a few (+) beers. Bill was a good man who loved his family, his kids, grandchildren, and friends. Peace and love to the Sabos.
