William (Bill) Welsh Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from May 15 to May 16, 2023.
William Alan Welsh (Bill) passed away on April 24, 2023 at his home after living with dementia for several years. Bill was born March 5, 1948 to William C. and Theodosia Welsh in Pittsburgh, PA. Bill loved his birth city, especially his favorite sports teams, The Steelers, The Pirates and The Penguins. He moved to Maryland for his job with W. R. Grace, where during his long career there he was able to travel to many different countries, meeting new people, experiencing different cultures and making new friendships. Family was most important to him, and Bill loved and was most proud of his daughters, Kerry and Caitlin, and his grandson, Brenden. He was also happy to welcome Kerry's husband Dave into the family, enjoying the rivalry between their favorite Baltimore and Pittsburgh teams. In his free time, he also enjoyed the flora and fauna in his own backyard, including the small fish ponds he built where the fish, lilies and the volunteer frogs and snapping turtle called home; the multiple bird houses and feeders he kept watch over and the many visiting night-time creatures. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Karen; his mother-in-law Roselyn Orndorff (Nana); his brother-in-law Greg Orndorff and Cathy Hornick; his beloved sister, Winnie Slatery; his brother Timothy Welsh and his wife Retta; his nephews David and John Slatery and their wives Andrea and Sharon; his nieces Whitney and Wallis Welsh; grand-nieces Erin and Kelly Slatery; grand-nephew Michael Slatery; and his cousins Debra Williams-Baker; Judy Smith; Bud Williams and Johnny Williams. We will forever keep Bill with us in our hearts and in our memories.

Karen and Family, I am so sorry about my late post, just picked up on this obit. Billy was my 1st cousin, we got along quite well, I always enjoyed spending time with him, we both love Pittsburgh and their Pittsburgh teams. Billy was an amazingly bright individual, a gift to all who knew him, I might add he was very humble as well. One of our favorite sports with each other was bantering over politics, right when Billy though he had me I would strike back, I truly miss those days. We went out to dine with each other as often as we could, he knew how to make the day a delight. Billy had a love of baseball, I can remember playing in a Pony League Championship game in Pittsburgh, Billy was there rooting myself and my team on. We were losing the game 7 to 2 when I came up to bat with the bases loaded, I just knew a fast ball was coming in and took advantage and hit a Grand Slam Run, I could hear Billy's cheers in the background. Now, we were losing 7 to 6, one of Billy's close neighbors and friends came in to bag named Donny Marcucci, the were two on base and Donny took advantage of that same fast ball, out of the park it went, we won the Championship 9 to 7. I think Billy is still cheering from Heaven, I think I can hear him now. May God Bless you cousin, it is your turn now to hit that Grand Slam in Heaven, wait for me I will join at God's choosing to make that team complete again.

Karen and girls , I'm a little late in posting this . I did post a message on Facebook. Even though we were cousins, we really thought of one another like brothers. What I mainly wanted to say was thank you for taking care of Bill. We know it was not easy . Thank you again.

Dear Karen, dear Welsh family,
We just found out about Bill's death. This news made my wife Heidi and I very sad. Bill was a good friend who always visited us on his trips to Germany, often at our home in Westhofen. Bill has told us a lot, full of pride about his family especially his grandchild, about his childhood days in Pennsylvania, about his parents and his studies. Of course we told Bill about our family. It was always very nice. Bill was my teacher, supervisor, colleague and confidante. I learned from Bill how to get acquainted in an American company and what matters. I am deeply grateful to him for that.
Bill showed me how to be a good manager, committed to success and to the employees.
Bill's passing away is a loss for us too

Dear Welsh Family, I was so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. We were neighbors from grade 2 on Chapple Ave in Banksville. We went to grade school and high school together. Bill was involved in little league with my brother. Bill talked lovingly about Karen, his daughters and that precious grandson. I send my condolences. Pattie
