William Cain Obituary

William Dale Cain, age 69, Sgt. Major, U.S. Army (ret.), died Oct. 16, 2003, at Potomac Hospital, Woodbridge. Bill, as he was known to his friends, was born Nov. 12, 1933, in Elkins, W.Va. and graduated from Elkins High School. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister. Bill served 30 years with the Army and during that time was stationed in Germany for two tours of duty, in France and in Panama and served in both Korea and Vietnam. He enlisted at Fort Meade Md. and retired from Fort Meade at the end of his long career with the Army. He and his wife, Joyce V. Cain moved to their home in Marumsco Woods, Woodbridge in 1964 where they raised their family. After serving in the Army, Bill worked for a navy contractor for 20 years before retiring to a life of enjoyable weekends at the family cabin in Martinsburg, W.Va. and time spent doing the gardening he loved. In addition to his wife of 48 years, Bill is survived by his twin daughters, Kelley Powers of Largo, Fla. and Shelley Palkovic of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and his son, David Cain of Stafford. Bill had seven beloved grandchildren, triplets, Bethany, Megan and Ryan Morris, all sophomores at West Virginia University; twins, Brittany and Ashley; and Brandon Cain of Stafford and Connor Palkovic of Martinsburg, W.Va. A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 27, at 10:45 a.m. in the Quantico National Cemetery, Triangle.
