William "Cal" Callahan

Dear Meredith,
Margot and I send you our thoughts and prayers to get you through your loss. May God give Cal a very short road to heaven and bless you and your extended family with memories of a life well lived.

My condolences to Meredith, Cal's family, and to all who knew him.

Cal shines in this interview. He was a good neighbor to us North Street folks, and he will be greatly missed.

I had the pleasure of working with Cal in the early 80's at Norlin he was one of my favorite people there. His ever present wit was amazing, and I saw his inner warmth under a tougher exterior. His eyes always lit up when he spoke of one of you. When our core Circulation staff (Steve Wrede, Peg Cash, Charlotte Allen, George MacDonald) visited Cal after a back surgery, he seemed grateful but embarrassed by all the fuss he just wanted to get back to work. I loved how his mind was always active he would pull out word lists to add to them homonyms, homophones, homographs and many others! Earning a genuine smile from Cal was an honor. May you find comfort knowing that he made such impressions on others, in person and through his articles. Peace to all of you.
