CALLAHAN, William P. BornDevon, PA May 30, 1931 Passed-Atlanta, GA - April 7, 2017 Brother John (1924-1989) Mother- Ellen Ireland Father William Scotland Bill graduated in 1953 from Villanova College, Villanova, PA with a BS in Economics and Naval Sciences. He attended the opening class of the Villanova Law School. He then went on to serve in the Atlantic and Pacific with the United States Navy on board the Cruiser Columbus, the AKA Montague 98, and as a Communications Officer attached to Com Taiwan Def Com, Taipei, Taiwan. Bill entered the wine business in California with Gallo Winery, working and living in Coronado and San Bernardino, CA and later in Syracuse, NY. He then relocated to Greenwich Village in NYC, where he worked in sales for Monsieur Henri Wine Co. Later, as National Marketing Manager for that firm, he developed Yago Santgria and Stolichnaya Vodka as national brands. In 1969 Bill moved to Atlanta, selling wine and liquor for local distributors. In 1993 he formed Callahan Enterprises, a consulting firm for fine wines and spirits representing national brands. During the course of his long wine career, he mentored and personally trained innumerable people active in both the wholesale and retail trade. Wine Societies: Founder, Sommelier Guild of Atlanta &, Order of Knights of the Vine. Member of the Sommelier Society of America located in New York City. Additionally, he served on the Board of the Atlanta Ballet and was an avid tennis player (ALTA). Bill is survived by wife, Joan Stilson Callahan Ex-wives, Nancie McKeon Callahan (deceased), Diane Gibson Callahan, (Sugar Hill, GA) and Christine Pannetier, (France) Children: William P. Callahan, FL, Deidre C. Lazar, CT, John M. Callahan, MA Gabrielle P. Callahan, Marietta, Wendy C. Healan, Sandy Springs Step-children: David Beavers, Donna B. Felsenheld Nine Grandchildren, Six Great-Grandchildren. Hundreds of friends from around the world with whom he was in close touch, especially the "Mermettes", his cardiac rehab support group. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to the cat rescue, "Good Mews", Marietta, GA. At Bill's request, there will be no funeral. A celebration of his varied and colorful life will be announced and held at a later date.
