CAREY--William Ward. A gracious, generous and elegant man who cared deeply about others and always made everyone feel welcome in his home, William Ward Carey passed away peacefully in Lenox, MA on March 25th. Born in New York City in 1937, the youngest of four children of John P. Carey and Kathryn Ward, he graduated from St. Bernard's School, The Browning School and Iona College. After graduation, Ward chose not to join his family business, Carey Transportation, but went to Wall Street instead. He spent the majority of his career at Blythe Eastman Dillon, Tucker Anthony, and Paine Webber. While passionate about Wall St., Ward's true love and devotion was to his wife, Patricia McDermott Carey, and their five children, Ann Carey Diaz (Alvaro), Ward Carey Jr. (Heidi), Alex Carey (Liz), Daphne Carey Jarrett, Cynthia Carey, and his 16 grandchildren: Bosco, Inigo, Hugo, Alvaro, Santi, Stoddy, Austin, Frick, Liam, Finn, Niall, Olivia, Angus, Lucy, Penny and Arthur. He was also a devoted uncle to the John Carey, Dede Gallagher, and Penny Peter children. A resident of New York, East Hampton and Palm Beach, Ward enjoyed golf, tennis, and paddle tennis as a member of the Maidstone Club, where he was a governor, as well as the Bath & Tennis Club in Palm Beach. A memorial service will be held in East Hampton in June.
