William Gordon Carroll beloved Actor and Vocalist passed away after a long and valiant battle with his health. He touched a multitude of lives with his gentle and giving spirit, talents, and positive outlook on life. William was born in Libertyville, Ill. to Charles E. Carroll, Jr. and Kathryn Dee Carroll (nee Abney). He graduated from Los Lomas High School with a degree in Business. He was fluent in both. French and English. William had a unique ability to charm a person with his numerous accents. As an Honored Tuba player he was a member of the California University Berkeley Marching Band. William was versatile with musical instruments, playing five different instruments from the violin to the bassoon. He worked 35 years for the Pacific Bell Company now AT&T, working his way from climbing telephone poles and phone installation to Senior Data Specialist and Data Center Management. At age 5 he fell in love with music surrounded by his brothers and the families pet hamster. He went on to dedicate 55 plus years to being a technician, musician, singer and actor. William sang in barbershop quartets and for 3 years he was a singing bartender at the Sea Witch in Ghirardelli Square, San Francisco. He added his romantic and spiritual tenor voice to many weddings, church services and stage productions. William has over 65 plus shows, commercials and company training videos to his credit. His on stage appearances included the roles Snug the Joiner in the Berkeley Shakespeare Festival's A Midsummer Night's Dream, as Mr. Bumble in Oliver, and Nicely-Nicely Johnson in Guys and Dolls. A few of his favorite roles were Moonface Martin in Anything Goes, Robert Livingston in 1776, and The Cowardly Lion in the Wizard of Oz. The highlight of his many years working backstage and on stage was playing the role of Sancho in The Man of La Mancha beside his loving friend Robert Roger. William was co-founder and president of the highly acclaimed Fantasy Forum Actors Ensemble, where children see fairy tales come true. He won the coveted Shelly award for his contribution to children's theater. He played Santa Claus for the City of Walnut Creek, and was blessed to hear many children's wishes for others. William enjoyed a well planned practical joke, and there were many! His fun, loving, and generous spirit will be missed by all who knew him. I worked at Petar's in Lafayette and can remember Bill singing around the piano bar with his friends and fellow singers. He was always such a nice guy with a great voice. There were people I always remembered from working there and he was one of them.
You can sing to the angels now Bill.

Condolences to his loved ones.

I was so saddened to read of his passing so young. Bill used to come in to Maximillian's in Walnut Creek across from Lesher Center nearly every weekend in the late 70's as we had a piano bar, I was the waitress and he sang my favorite song Dulcinea. I loved his singing, he even came to my mothers hospital room and sang to her...I always said that helped her through. What a voice, a gift and he used it well, he spread love and joy everywhere to everyone. Rest in Heaven sweet Bill, you earned your wings! Peggy McKee

Having worked with Bill many times over the years with DLOC & CCMT and seeing his accomplishments in theater as an artist, technician and musician, I am expressing my personal feelings as well as those who worked with him on many DLOC shows over the years. My condolences to his family on his passing.

Oh Bill - words cannot express the sadness I feel. To know that your beautiful voice and wonderful sense of humor (and the absurd) are gone from this mortal plain. I knew you "back in the day" when it was still the "Nut House", not the Lesher. I remember the really fantastic portrayals you did of characters. You were always consistent and I can't think of a time that you weren't the best of friends. You could make a stone laugh. Too many years out of touch, I could read reviews and remember. You were a good man and the world has lost someone truly special. To your family and friends, most sincere condolences - a life so short, but well spent. Rest in Peace Bill.

I will always remember Bill fondly. His beautiful voice is the one I hear whenever I think of so many songs. Bill's generous, and humor loving spirit helped bring light to some tough times. My sincere, heartfelt condolences to all who loved him.

I cannot imagine the void created to those who knew Bill on a more personal level but, for someone who only spoke with him on the phone, I could tell he was someone special. Only knowing Bill for a short time (1 year) he made an impact on me that he was well versed in his work as a datacenter manager and was a wonderful resource for someone fairly new to the environment. He displayed his caring nature by always being willing to help his fellow teammates. I pray for Strength and Peace for all the family and friends who knew him best.
