William Chong Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and The Province on Oct. 24, 2006.

CHONG _ William (Bill) passed away peacefully on October 18, 2006 at the age of 95. He was known for his bravery working as Agent 50 of British Army Aid Group "Behind Enemy Lines" during the Second World War. He will always be missed for his love of life and humour. Bill was very touched and his family is forever grateful by the loving care from the Marion Hospice, Vancouver General Hospital, and Vancouver Coastal Health in the last part of his life. His family (wife Yvonne, daughter Francis and son Tim) and friends will hold a memorial service to celebrate his life and remember him on October 28, 2006 at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church, 1401 Comox Street (cross street Broughton) Vancouver. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Chinese Canadian Military Museum.

We are sending our love to you all. Our thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. May your memories bring you comfort.

It is great that I knew Mr. Chong when I was a child. He took me along with Francis to the beaches in NT. I was invited to those big parties with fabulous birthday cakes prepared by him..... He had a great loving heart demonstrating in his laughters, generous and tenderness. He is always part of my childhood memory.

Sue and I send our love, prayers and good wishes to Yvonne and all the family at this sad and yet proud time. Bill will be remembered by our whole family as a man of faith, fun and fortitude. I was blessed in preparing Bill for his comfiration in Christ Church Kowloon Tong, Hong Kong in the late 1980's. He was always fun and had the great ability to relate to young and old alike. He was a man of inner strength as was shown by his couragous service for the UK in the occupation of Hong Kong and China. We remember him fondly and enjoyed many happy times with him in Canada and Hong Kong usually surrounding a meal that he had prepared, or if not prepared then certainly organised. He was a wonderful husband ,father ,grandfather and friend and that is reflected in his lovely children and grandchildren who srvive him.

God bless you Bill, may you rest in peace and rise in glory'.
