Culpepper, Jr. William Herbert "Herb"
William Herbert "Herb" Culpepper Jr, beloved husband of Linda; and adored father to Michelle (James) Planek and Will (Nicole), lost his 4 year battle with Alzheimer's on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at home in Tempe, Arizona. He is survived by his amazing granddaughters, Rebekah, Alyssa, Alexis, Aliyah, and Caylee; his loving brother Wayne (Ann), several nieces and nephews, and many first cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister Marie. Herb was born September 13, 1946, in Norfolk, Virginia to William "Cully" and Alma (Grimstead) Culpepper. In 1950, the family moved to Beaver, Iowa and ultimately settled in Webster City, Iowa in 1957. Herb graduated from Webster City High School in 1965 and immediately joined the Air Force where he proudly served our country. Upon his return to Webster City, he met his wife, Linda, and married in 1969. Herb, Linda, and their kids moved to Des Moines in 1972. In 1985, Herb and his family relocated to Tempe, Arizona where he made a career working for the state of Arizona; in the Department of Corrections and the Attorney General's Office. After retiring from the state he worked at Home Depot and then Lowe's to keep busy. He loved a good round of golf, enjoyed camping and fishing, and would not pass up a game of cribbage or cards. Herb liked building computers and would spend hours tinkering with them. His love of music encompassed many genres with his favorite being doo-wop. Herb's outgoing personality and smile was infectious. He had the ability to make anyone laugh and never met a stranger. Herb's Celebration of Life will be Saturday, December 9th, 2017 from 1pm to 3pm at Legacy Funeral Home, 4403 E Broadway Rd, Mesa AZ 85206. A private interment at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Herb's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
