RICHLANDS, Va. — William Arthur (Bill) Davis, 60 years of age of Richlands, Va., formerly of Grundy, Va., passed away Friday, October 2, 2009 at his residence. Born in Buchanan, February 19, 1949, he was the son of the late Coy Arthur Davis and Augusta Mae Ratliff Davis.Bill was a disabled coal miner, having worked several years in different mines as superintendent and boss. He loved animals, especially horses. He was a loving brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle was a very outgoing person, never saw a stranger and helped anybody that needIn addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one sister, Hazel Hagy; one brother, Virgil Hess; and one daughter, Crystal Davis.He is survived by his first wife, Rita; and children, Melody Seitz, Tammy Royal, Jennifer Lawlis and Jessica Davis, all of Alabama and the late Crystal Davis; second wife, Paula and children, Kayla Varney and Brianna Davis of all of Swords Creek, Va.; five sisters, Mrs. Donald (Rosalee) Null of Richlands, Va., Mrs. Edith (Frank) Thompson of Abingdon, Va., Mrs. Edd (Beulah) Shortridge of Grundy, Va., Louise Shortridge of Doran, Va. and Mrs. (Larry) Thornsberry of Abingdon, Va.; one brother, William Hess and wife Winnie of Grundy, Va. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.Funeral services foe William Arthur (Bill) Davis will be conducted Tuesday, October 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Doug Elkins, the Rev. Wade McGeorge and Evg. Mike Rife officiating. Burial will follow in the Hibbitts Cemetery, Grundy, Va.Active pallbearers will be Justin Miller, Bradley Robb, Russell Lawlis, Bo Beaver, Adam Blosser and Tony Stacy.Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Null, Frank Thompson, Edd Shortridge, Larry Thornsberry, Willard Hess, Stewart Sinclair and David Shortridge.The family will receive friends at the Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel after 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Evening services will be held Sunday and Monday at 7:00 p.m..Memorial condolences may be sent to the family at www.shortridgeramey.com.The family of William Arthur (Bill) Davis have entrusted the care of their loved one to Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home of Grundy, Va.
