William "Bud" Harris Dowling, 84, of Englewood, Florida, died Saturday, June 27, 2009 at his Charlotte County residence. He was born on January 24, 1925 in Buffalo, NY to the late Herbert and Carrie (Lindau) Dowling.He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunner on a PT boat in the South Pacific. He played semi-professional baseball. Mr. Dowling retired in 1984 from the City of North Tonawanda, NY as a tax assessor after 30 years. He moved to Englewood 21 years ago. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 2378 and the V.F.W. Post, both in Englewood, and was a life member of the American Legion Post 264 in Tonawanda, NY. He loved sports, woodworking, golf and home ownership.He was predeceased by a daughter, Cristine. Survivors include his loving wife of 61 years, Molly D. Dowling of Englewood, FL; three sons, Randy H. (Marcia) Dowling of North Tonawanda, NY, Richard N. (Patricia) Dowling of Kenmore, NY, Robert W. Dowling of Tampa, FL; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be in Sarasota National VA Cemetery. Englewood Community Funeral Home and Cremation Service has been selected to handle arrangements.You man express your condolences to the Dowling family at www.englewoodfh.com.
