William Drummy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 30 to Jan. 31, 2023.
William A. Drummy, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on January 26, 2023 of pancreatic cancer. He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Samuel and Jane (Steinhauser) Drummy. The family moved to North Platte in 1947. Bill attended St. Patrick's Schools, (class of 1963), Kearney State College and Indiana University. He lived in Denver for many years and while there, married Candi Montgomery (later divorced). They had a daughter, Leigh. Bill lived in Indianapolis for the last 18 years, where he worked at Ace Hardware. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law; Leigh and Mark Uhlik of Indianapolis, his granddaughters, Rachel and Rebcca Uhlik; siblings, Kathy (Craig) Matheny of Long Beach, CA., Shirley (Bill Smith) Hawkins of Blue Ridge Summit, PA., Tad (Richard) Lisella of Nashville, TN., Laurie Kinsel of Omaha, NE., and Pat Neff of Kearney, NE, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Sam, and his brothers-in-law, Jerry Neff and Jim Zerface.

Bill was an amazing father and "papa." He loved introducing his girls to both uncommon foods and to his favorite music, supporting them in any endeavor, encouraging them to empower themselves with knowledge, and reminding them that life is never black and white, but rather a million shades of gray. He was a favorite among his nieces and nephews (some of whom called him Reverend Uncle Bill) and his "anything goes" mindset led to many nieces and nephews defending their actions by stating, "Uncle Bill said I could." Anyone who knew him enjoyed his intelligence, his humor, and his sometimes-inappropriate stories. Bill was a lifetime reader who generally read multiple books at a time. He was creative and wrote poetry and songs. He loved music and was a goldmine of information: the artist, song title, when it was released and all the lyrics were in his memory. Bill also had a vast knowledge of sports, especially baseball. He had a sense of adventure and lived an eventful live (including getting kicked out of Portugal with his friends). In his later years, he loved traveling with his sisters, making it to 49 of the 50 states. He preferred the back roads and small towns because that's where "real life" happened. He was a true connoisseur of enjoying the journey on the way to the destination.

He is already greatly missed. A Celebration Of Life will be held in Indianapolis in June.

Bill was just as his obituary proclaimed, far out adventure, leader of the pack (that would be brains behind the mischief) and daring us to take the dare. Sport trips were especially entertaining in Cecil´s old bus. Always include classmates in my daily mass intentions. Rest in Peace, Bill
