In Loving Memory of

William E. "Bill" and Peggy Lofton

November 1, 1942 - June 7, 2024

June 29, 1944 - June 8, 2024

One day after celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary, Bill Lofton, 81, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2024, in Helotes, TX. His loving wife Peggy, 79, joined him the following morning as they entered their eternal home together.

William E. "Bill" Lofton was born on November 1, 1942 to W.B., Jr. and Elsie (Skiles) Lofton in Port Arthur, TX. He graduated from Nederland High School in 1961. He played baritone in the marching band and marched at President John F. Kennedy's Inauguration Parade. On June 6, 1964 Bill was united in marriage to Peggy Powers in Dallas, TX.

Bill was a faithful Christian and served our Lord at the University Oaks church of Christ. Bill loved our Lord and His Church, placing them as the highest priority in his life. Bill previously served as Deacon at the Southside church of Christ in Lubbock, TX: Shenandoah church of Christ in San Antonio, TX; and Northern Oaks church of Christ in San Antonio, TX. An accomplished song leader, Bill led singing in every congregation he was a member of, as well as sang for a number of weddings and funerals.

Bill was a Certified Safety Professional with the American Society of Safety Engineers. His career spanned over four decades as he worked for multiple insurance companies including Gulf Insurance Company, Aetna, CG Aetna, CIGNA, EIB, Royal and Sun Alliance, and finally retiring as the Assistant Director of Environmental Health, Safety, and Risk Management for Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX in 2007.

Bill honorably served his Country for over 23 years in the Texas Air National Guard, retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1990 with his last assignment as the Group First Sergeant of the 149th Tactical Fighter Group at Kelly AFB, TX.

Bill was a jack of all trades but an ace Automotive Mechanic. In the '80s Bill started a part-time mobile fleet servicing business called P.M. Fleet Services, which became more than a hobby to him. But mostly Bill volunteered his skills by helping people fix their cars, especially widows and older friends.

Peggy Louann (Powers) Lofton was born on June 29, 1944 to Andrew and Lulu (Castleman) Powers on a cotton farm north of Hollis, OK. She graduated from Arnette High School in 1962 with a graduating class of eight students. Peggy lettered in basketball each year of high school, playing on the Arnette girls team that played in the State Tournament. She left her beloved home on the farm for Dallas, TX to attend Business School and gain employment as a secretary. On June 6, 1964 she fulfilled the first part of the wish she wrote in her High School Memory Book to "Marry a Christian and have children" when she married Bill Lofton.

Peggy was a faithful Christian, as her husband, and taught children's Bible classes in each congregation they served.

Peggy had many skills and was a speedy typist. She worked most of her adult life as a tele-typist and later as the Administrative Assistant to the District Manager for Sears before retiring in 2006. She was also a seamstress and enjoyed spending her time at the sewing machine.

Nothing brought more joy to Bill and Peggy than spending time together with their grandchildren, whether caring for them when they were young or attending all of their athletic, drama and choir, and school events.

Grateful to have shared in Bill and Peggy's lives are their children Rhonda Galland of San Antonio, TX and Daron (Terri) Lofton of San Antonio, TX; grandchildren Shelby (Jacob) Dannels of La Vernia, TX; Brady (Tessa) Galland of Canyon, TX; William "Drew" (fiancé Bryanna Simmons) Lofton of Overland Park, KS; Tanner Lofton of Dallas, TX; great grandsons Stetson, Levi, and Granger Dannels of La Vernia, TX; great granddaughters Blair and Tatum Galland of Canyon, TX; Bill's brothers Lynn (Janette) Lofton of Cary, NC and Rudy (Becky) Lofton of Magnolia, TX; Peggy's sisters Nelda (Lainial) Gilbert of Altus, OK, Debbie (Bryan) Vogt of Altus, OK and Jan (Harold) Griffin of Georgetown, TX; and nine nephews, six nieces, other relatives and numerous friends.

Bill and Peggy were preceded in death by their parents W.B. and Elsie Lofton and Andrew and Lulu Powers; Peggy's siblings Larry Powers and Doris Powers; and their grandson Colby Galland.

The family extends gratitude to the staff at Honey's House and Prodigious Hospice for providing the best possible care for Bill and Peggy in the last years of their lives. The compassion and dignity they received was much appreciated and did not go unrecognized.

Funeral Services for the couple are at 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 22, 2024, at Boerne Church of Christ in Boerne, TX. Interment Service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at O.M. Cemetery in Harmon County, OK. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at 11:00 A.M. Friday, July 5, 2024, at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, TX.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bill and Peggy's memory to The Alzheimer's Association at https://www.alz.org. Expressions of sympathy may be extended to the family through https://www.legacy.com.

I worked at Sears also. I remember Peggy working diligently with managers but also she had a pleasant greeting and smile when I would speak to her. Very sorry for your tremendous losses. Pray for your peace.

I knew the Lofton's in the 70's, while we both attended Shenandoah cofC. I love the entire family, and my heart goes out to Rhonda and Daron. I pray you both, along with your entire family will experience God's peace.

Blessings!
