William Blythe Ebersold (1942-2024)

William B. Ebersold, 82, of Upper Marlboro, MD, passed away peacefully at home on October 27, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, following complications from cancer. Bill was a remarkable individual who touched many lives with his kindness, wisdom, and stories.

Born in Hartford, CT in 1942 to William and Lucille Ebersold, Bill was an active member of the Boy Scouts, achieving the rank of Eagle Scout at a remarkably young age. He attended the Loomis School and graduated from Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service in 1964. Bill's distinguished career in international transportation began with the Maritime Administration, and he also served as an Economic Affairs Officer for the UN Economic Commission for Europe in Geneva, Switzerland for three years. Bill spent much of his second career, following retirement, writing and consulting for leading cruise industry publications.

Throughout his life, he was a devout Catholic, member of Saint Mary's parish in Upper Marlboro, MD and actively involved in Parish activities.

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vicki, and their four devoted daughters: Kris (Tom) McMahon, Mary (Jamie) Bryant, Karen (Giuseppe) Pulvirenti, and Jenna Vultaggio. He also leaves behind six cherished grandchildren: Erin (Dave) Reiner, Tommy (Becca) McMahon, Giordano Pulvirenti, Gerardo Pulvirenti, Julia Vultaggio, and Lauren Vultaggio, as well as a beloved great-grandson, Otto Reiner, siblings Katherine Cunningham and John (Mary Kay) Ebersold and a multitude of other close family. Bill was a loving and attentive husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who had a passion for travel, writing and spending time with family and he was always ready with a story. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Services to celebrate Bill's life will be held at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 14908 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Viewing will take place from 10:00 - 11:30 am, followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 am and interment at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Rd, Clinton, MD 20735, to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital in Bill's name.

True story..Moe, Chip Clancy and Bill walk into the 1776 bar in Georgetown in '63,'64 and order a round of beers. Now, I'm only 12 years old but,6 feet tall... Moe and Chip get carded but, not Bill or me! I knew I had a friend forever! Peace and resilience

Bill hired me as a consultant to MARAD. The relationship lasted over ten years and our friendship continued as Bill attended the annual cruise industry convention here in Miami. Sheila and I would look forward to seeing Bill and Vicki each year and spending time with them. Professionally, Bill was expert in all matters to do with ocean shipping. But beyond that he was real friend. Sheila and I will miss him greatly.

Knew Bill & Vicki from our Fraternity [Delta Phi Epsilon].
What a wonderful man...he had a really fine-tuned sense of humor. He and Vicki were truly inseparable. All of our Brothers will miss Bill. John Ondrick
