EDELL, WILLIAM (BILL) EDELL, PhD, born February 28, 1953 in New York City, passed away on November 20, 2002, in Dallas, Texas. He is survived by his adoring wife of 20 years, Ibedth Carrajco Edell, his loving daughters Ilana, age 17 and Alexandra, age 11. He is also survived by his parents Milton and Trudy Edelstein, his sister Caryn and her husband and two children, as well as his mother in law, aunts, uncles and cousins. He will also be missed by his closest friends David, Steve, Noel, Larry and cousin Alexis. Dr. Edell, a noted psychologist and scholar graduated summa cum laude in 1974, with distinctions in psychology, from State University of New York at Buffalo. He received his PhD in psychology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1983, where he was awarded a Dean's Fellowship and held a Scottish Rite Dissertation Research Fellow. Dr. Edell had written more than 50 professional publications and gave more than 200 presentations at national meetings. He served as an editorial reviewer for the Journal of Psychopathology and Behavioral Assessment, Journal of Abnormal Psychology and Journal of Personality Assessment, among others. Dr. Edell was on the Editorial Advisory Committee for the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM IV). His most recent position was as Vice President Clinical Research in the Center for Clinical and Behavioral Research of OPTX. Dr. Edell had previously been with Horizon Health Corporation as Senior Vice President, Quality Improvement and Senior Vice President, Clinical Development, Mental Health Outcomes. His prior academic appointments included Associate Professor of Psychiatry (Psychology) and Director of Psychology and Evaluation Unit, Yale Psychiatric Institute, Yale University. Very community minded, Dr. Edell served as President on the Board of Directors of the Children's Cancer Fund of Dallas, Inc. He was also very involved with his children's activities. He acted as assistant coach of his daughter Alexandra's volleyball team and traditionally volunteered alongside his daughter Ilana serving food in a soup kitchen for homeless people in the community. "Bill" Edell was loved for many reasons, among them his generosity, kindness, love, strength, optimism, tremendous courage and great sense of humor. He was a deeply devoted husband, father, son, brother and staunchly loyal friend. Above all else, he loved his wife and daughters. His spirit will watch over them forever. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 22, 2002, at Sparkman Hillcrest Northwest Hwy. Chapel, Rabbi Murray Berger, officiating. Interment to follow Hillcrest Memorial Park. A reception will follow at the Edell's home. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Children's Cancer Fund of Dallas, Inc. Dignity Memorial Sparkman Hillcrest 7405 W.
