William "Billy" H. Felty BRISTOL, Tenn. William "Billy" H. Felty, where he lived with his wife Maudella, passed away May 30, 2013, at Benton House, Douglasville, Ga., at the age of 88. Bill was born in Abingdon, Va., to Lota and Lawrence Felty at 155 Valley Street on Feb. 25, 1925. He graduated from William King H.S. where he played football, basketball, baseball and saxophone in the band. When Bill was a young man his jobs were disc jockey, horse jockey, and lifeguard at Martha Washington Inn. He was a supervisor at Raytheon for 35 years over the tool and die making in the mill department. His military days started when he and his brother Hurley joined on the same day, June 3, 1943. Hurley joined the Army, and was killed on Anzio Beach, Italy and received the Purple Heart posthumously. Bill served as a private 1st class in the Marine Corp, "C" company, 6th Pioneer Battalion, 6th Marine Division and was honorably discharged as Corporal April 6th, 1946 and served two more years as a Reserve. He saw action at Guam, Marianas Island and Mag-Mag. Bill's main action was at Okinawa Shima. Life member of VFW Post 6975, Bill distinguished himself as a recruiter and was named National Aide de Camp. He was on the VFW bowling team for 30 years, went to state tournament and bowled a perfect game. American Legion Post 0145 recently sent Bill a certificate of appreciation for 27 years of service. Bill will be remembered and missed for his love of the lake, fishing and making his own lures. His other passion was music, especially Big Band era. Bill's main passion was his children, teaching them his love of nature and that we could do anything. He is survived by his wife Maudella Felty; children, Patricia Ann Felty, Deborah Kay Fouts, William H. Felty Jr., his wife Kim Felty; and granddaughter Maddison Paige Felty; Bill is also survived by stepson, Michael Hummill, his wife Jeanette Hummill; and two grandchildren, Anthony and Maverick. Visitation will be held on Friday June 7, from 6-8 p.m. at Frost Funeral Home, Abingdon. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 8 at 1 p.m. in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Sherry Boles officiating. A procession will follow to Knollkreg Memorial Park, Abingdon for burial with Military Honors conducted at the gravesite by the Highlands Veterans Honor Guard and the Virginia National Guard Honor Guard. Debbie,
I am so sorry to read about your father's death. It is very hard to lose your dad as I well know. Please know I still have fond memories of our time at Reynolds Memorial. My sincerest sympathies.

I remember Bill well, I worked with him from 1966 to his retirement in 1987, he was in the lathe deptmart and I was in Borematic, he was a good man, I remember Bill so well, sorry he passed.
