Foody, William Joseph Bill age 78, a resident of Riverside for 8 years went to be with the Lord on October 30, 2009. Bill was the first U.S. born child of William and Mary Foody, recent immigrants from Ireland. Bill was born in New York City on September 16, 1931 and he became the first person in the family to graduate from college. Bill graduated in 1955 from Manhattan College in New York City. He served in the Korean War and was a decorated veteran. As a businessman, Bill held several responsible managerial positions and in 1974 Bill joined Switzer Candy Company in St. Louis, MO., which he eventually headed. Bill retired in 1992 from David and Sons Co., a division of Nestle Foods Company. Throughout his working life Bill received many awards and promotions for his contributions to these companies. Bill's life was filled with activities. He served as his sons' Cub Scout leader, baseball and basketball coach. Bill enjoyed flying planes, sailing, wood working, and loved to read. Both Bill's sons and his grandson are Eagle Scouts, a collective achievement for which he was very proud. In September 2001, Bill and Blanche decided to move closer to their oldest son and family in Riverside, CA. While in Riverside, Bill was a member of the Grove Community Church and volunteered at the Riverside National Cemetery. Bill was a deeply religious man and Jesus Christ was a big part of his life. Bill is survived by his wife, Blanche of 50 years; son Bill Foody and his wife Amy and their two children, William and Josephine of Riverside, CA.; son Andrew Foody and his wife Lisa of Melbourne, Australia; nephew Emmett Lynch and wife Fran and daughter Lexie of Pasadena, CA. Bill was well loved and will be remembered by his family and friends. Services: A memorial service will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Boulevard, Riverside, CA. on November 17, 2009 at 11 a.m. staging area #1. I'm so glad this site has kept the memory of Bill Foody [RIP] alive. For me, Bill will ALWAYS live in MY memory, especially for how helpful Biil was in getting me over a very bad auto accident I was recovering from. I know in my heart Bill was material in helping me recover and get back on me feet. After which, I had the good fortune to help Bill, and his lovely wife, Blanche, celebrate FIFTY years of marriage. In my bed next to Bill, I witnessed EVERY day the love and care they had for each other. With all my respect, Sol Hamburger

Bill was a friend of my husband's family forever. I knew him through my work long before I met my husband and enjoyed a his sharp wit every time we spoke. Bill's integrity, honesty and gusto were an inspiration during his life and will continue to be for me as I "do my best" to be my son's scout leader.
I will keep Bill close at heart and mind during all our scouting events and hope I raise an Eagle.

I only knew Bill in the last year of his life. We were in Villa, Riverside Rehab Hospital together, and shared Xmas and New Year's together. Bill was instrumental in pulling me through after a very bad auto accident. I also met and enjoyed seeing his wife, Blanche every day, when she came to the hospital to take loving care of her husband. I also met his local family and a few members of his church who visited.

In the time I knew Bill I learned what a courageous man he was. We shared many stories of life in the ghettos of NYC where he grew up and where I lived a couple of my teen age years.

I was privileged to attend his and Blache's 50th wedding anniversary celebration at his son and daughter in law's house, Bill and Amy. I made a special friend in Bill's grandson, Willy, who took time to call me shortly after Bill's death.

I cheered along with Bill when Willy made his Eagle scout matriculation. I will miss Bill the rest of my life. In the one short year we knew each other, he helped me over several rough spots.

Bill has gone to a just reward, one he always knew he'd earned. He will live on in my memory as he will with his surviving family and many close friends.

Good bye Bill. You were a most worthy bedmate and friend. /Sol Hamburger, [email protected]

The Manhattan College alumni community shares the grief, and is now praying for our fellow alumni and the family at this time. The Alumni Office has been informed. As well as the Jasper Jottings community that I personally can reach. We are all a little poorer now. "No man is an island, entire of itself … any man’s death diminishes me". We are sorry for your loss.
