Happened to see the obituary in the Inquirer - did not know Bill but wish I had! What a wonderful tribute to someone who must have been so loved and touched so many lives. My condolences to his family and friends. He lived through a lot and sounds like he did it with a great attitude and love for all.

I happened upon Mr. Gates obituary while reading last Saturday's Inquirer. I never met the man nor do I know any of you, his family members. But I just had to reach out to you to say that I am sorry that I never got the chance to meet him - what a lovely tribute and from all accounts he must have been an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. My condolences to all of you.
By the way, I have never done this before - I was just very moved by your words. Take care.

I did not know Bill, but I wish I had! A friend posted his obituary on facebook for people to read because it was so clever and well written. You, as his family and friends, were so lucky to have him in your life. I want you to know that I hug my children when I see them, talk to my Mother every night when I say my prayers, as she died in August at 98, and I try to live a decent life. In Bill's honor I will try harder!! May he Rest in Peace!!

I didn't know William but I found his obituary to be a very well written tribute to a man who was obviously loved by many. And for good reason. I was so touched by this, I posted it on my Facebook page to share. My condolences to William's family and friends.

Dear Bill-
I wish I'd had time to tell you in person what you were to me. You made yourself my Dad. I am so grateful to my Gates extended family for allowing me to be a part of their lives, and try to live life doing good for others and always acting with kindness in a world that is in chaos. You gave me that ideal, and I will always miss you and have a large hole in my heart where you used to be. I love you so much, I only wish I had time to tell you myself.

I just read Wiliam's obit in the Phila Inquirer. It is a beautiful description of his obviously well lived life and his personality and spirit.
I never met William or any of his family but after reading about him I hugged my son and kissed my husband in honor of him.
So sorry for your loss, he was surely a good guy.
