William "Bill" Powell Harvey, 86, of Greenville died in the Greenville hospital on April 29, 2009. He was born in DeQueen, Ark., on Jan. 10, 1923, to William S. and Clara Pearline Harvey. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He honorably served his country in World War II in the Italian Campaign where he received a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts. He was a draftsman for the Texas State Highway Department for 40 years before his retirement. For 50 years he was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a Shriner. He was a member of Westview United Methodist Church (formerly Lee Street Methodist) for more than 60 years, and it was in the parsonage of this church he married Etta Dell Wright in 1946. They had been married for 62 years.He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Wilma Ward Fields; brothers-in-law William and Joe Wright, Raymond Ward, J.D. Smith, Rex Baker, and John Talley; and a sister-in-law, Peggy Wright.He is survived by his beloved wife; a son, Billy Dale Harvey and wife Lois of Biloxi, Miss.; grandson Bradley Harvey of Fayetteville, Ark.; grandson Ryan Harvey and wife Renee of Blue Ridge; great-granddaughters Grace, Lilly and Rose Harvey; a sister, Jean Smith; sisters-in-law Cloe Talley, Murl Baker and Marcella Wright; brother in law J.P. Fields and numerous nephews, nieces and many friends.The family wishes to commend and praise the staff at the Greenville Hospital ICU for all of their great care and concern.Ski on Ski Daddy, you will be missed.Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Coker Mathews Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Brian Bosworth officiating. Committal services follow at Memoryland Memorial Park. Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.Pallbearers will be Bradley Harvey, Ryan Harvey, Johnny Talley, Steve Knox, Robert Woods and Henry Black. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Baker, James Roddy, Hardy Parrott, Billy Craig, Jerrel Tredway, Kenneth Kluttz, Felix Frazier and Timothy Smith.
