William Havemeyer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 2 to Jan. 3, 2022.
William Kinzie Havemeyer
Born: March 18, 1957
Died: December 8, 2021
Bill, 'Havey', age 64, a resident of St Louis Park, Minnesota, formally of Wisconsin and Illinois, died on December 8, 2021. He was the beloved son of the late Herbert Kinzie Havemeyer, the late Frances (Frankowski) Havemeyer and father of Jason William Havemeyer.
Born in Woodstock Illinois to Herbert Kinzie and Frances (Frankowski) Havemeyer on March 18, 1957, Bill is survived by his son Jason William Havemeyer, brother John Kinzie Havemeyer, sister-in -law Laura Havemeyer, niece Kadylyn Kinzie Havemeyer, and nephew Dylan Thomas Havemeyer.
Bill grew up in the small town of Volo in Lake County Illinois. He was an acolyte at Saint Andrew church in Grayslake his families church. He graduated from Wauconda (Illinois) High School in 1975. Bill participated in a number of sports including basketball, football, swimming, wrestling and track.
In his youth he was a Life Guard at beaches in Wauconda and was credited with saving two lives during the same incident at Bangs Lake.
He was a great athlete. His best friends called him Havey. His High School accomplishments included a number of records with one being the best time in the 100 yard dash which remains unbroken to this day. Into his adult years he continued in sports which included bowling and an accomplished career in 12 & 16" softball where he enjoyed being part of many championships. He was often recognized as the best racquetball player at his club as well.
He attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois and the College of Lake County in Grayslake Illinois.
Bill entered the family business, "Havemeyer's" in Volo Illinois. His father Herbert had started the business in 1954 with Bills mother Frances. It had its beginnings as a Carpet and General Merchandise store. Tragically in 1960, when Bill was three, his father Herbert died. His mom Fran continued the business which she grew into a fabric, upholstery, blinds and drapery business. Bill joined the business around 1976. He continued working with Fran until buying the business from her when she retired in about 2009. He went on to form his own business, Kinzie's Blinds and Shades. Bill and his business ventured to Minnesota. During his residence in Minnesota he worked for a time for Custom Drapery and Blinds by Michael Esch. His broad career also included work in many areas interior décor, the grocery industry, and retail sales.
Within grocery, Bill found work in a trade that paired with his love of the culinary arts. He was an accomplished chef who cooked at Mers Supper Club in Wauconda Illinois during his formidable years and on into his twenties. Bill especially loved to cook with his sister-in-law Laura when he visited Door County Wisconsin.
He had a great sense of humor. Havy will be dearly missed. I am sure his spirit is now enjoying a reunion with his Mom and Dad in Heaven. All are together with their Savior Jesus Christ.
Thoughts are developing into plans to have an event in his memory, possibly next spring. We his family and friends will endeavor to pass on details as they develop.

RIP Bill! I also remember seeing Bill at the osage tennis courts. He was wearing tight, short, shorts, years after that fashion was gone. He played a great game of tennis and made the fashion faux pas look great!!

I worked with Bill at Abbott Paint and Carpet. In the short time we worked together I got to know him as very kind person. I am so sorry for the family's loss. Blessings

My deepest condolences. Having just worked with Bill for the last few months of his life he was a great guy. We, all here at Abbott Paint and Carpet miss him and know that he will be happiest in the afterlife he now shares with family. He was a very friendly and kind man. Hard working and willing to try to do anything (even computers although he really didn't like that end of things). God Bless BIll!

So sorry to hear about Bill´s passing. We ran track together in high school. We played against each other in softball years later. Always a good, friendly and funny guy. Peace to you, Harvey.

Though I hadn't spoken to Bill in many years, I was very saddened to hear of "Havey's" passing. Bill and I were roommates after graduating from WHS and you you would often find the two of us "playing the outfield" in a 16" softball game - winter, spring, summer or fall. We spent so much time together, the girl who I later married initially only knew us as "Bill & Eric" - not sure who was Bill and who was Eric. It's been 40 years Bill, and I'm glad she chose the "blonde one". We certainly had some great times trying to figure out life back then. Thanks for the memories Havey. ;-)

Bill was a good friend in high school. He could always run like the wind and was a great athlete. I will always remember Bill as having a constant smile on his face. I am sorry for your loss.
