WILLIAM HAYNES Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 18 to Sep. 19, 2012.
WILLIAM HAYNES William C. Haynes died peacefully at home in the arms of his beloved wife, of 23 years, Valerie LaPorta Haynes, Sept. 9, 2012, after a valiant struggle with cancer. Bill was born Dec. 9, 1937 in Metropolis, Ill., the third child of Samuel and Hilda Haynes. Bill often remarked that only "super" people were born in Metropolis, as it was also the fictional home of Superman. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Joan Orchow and Marie Langston; brother, Don Haynes; and his son, David Haynes. Bill is survived by his son, Doug Haynes of Henderson. Bill was a true southern gentleman who would wear his hat indoors but never in the presence of a lady. Additionally, Bill was known as an avid sportsman. He was a big game hunter and a fisherman who traveled the world for that big catch. He also enjoyed bowling and loved the game of golf. He often at times said "Please bury me at the 17th hole because I died their many times before." Bill, who had a wonderful sense of humor, would always have a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He will be missed by all who knew him, but respectfully by his wife, of 23 years. "Memory of a good person is a blessing. The tears in my eyes I can wipe away, but the ache in my heart will always stay." Services are private. Donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Las Vegas.

Bill was my mentor when I came to work at the Dept. of Aviation 20+ years ago. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher and coworker. I always admired Bills wit, patience and work ethic.
The job has never been the same since he retired but the stories he shared will stay with me forever.

I will dearly miss my Uncle Bill and I feel so sad for my cousin Doug and Aunt Valerie for their loss. It has been such a hard year for them, and I can only send my deepest and loving condolences to my remaining Nevada family. My mom loved her little brother so very much, as did I and my kids.

Although we did not get to know you and Bill very well as you moved from Aldbury shortly after we moved there. We were saddened to hear of his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Jim & Kathy Lucas

I first met Bill 25 years ago. We became friends and spent many enjoyable times together hunting & golfing. His wit & humor was unsurpassed. For many of us, his passing leaves a void not to be filled, but also leaves many very wonderful memories.

While I did not know Mr. Haynes we share a common heritage. I, too, was born in Metropolis, Ill. And graduated from Basic High in Henderson many years ago. My condolences go out to the family and friends. May God grant you peace and comfort.
