William Horn Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 20, 2024.
William Ernest Horn passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, March 17th, 2024. Bill was born on May 5th, 1944 to William and Beatrice (Nee Esa) Horn.

Growing up he could be described as willful and enjoyed many antics with his cousin. He showed a spectacular talent for drawing and had aspirations to attend Art School. He graduated from West Technical High School in Cleveland, OH. He worked for Fisher Foods immediately after graduation and then as a driver for Cotton Club Bottling Company.

He met the woman he would later marry before he joined the Army Reserves. They were married for 24 years and raised two amazing daughters together (wink). He then took a job at TRW in Euclid, OH. He worked first as a machinist and eventually settled in as an inspector for the remainder of his time there. After the closing of TRW he worked in various machine shop settings until he retired.

If you knew Bill and you were a woman you were either charmed or offended. If you knew Bill and you were a man you were buddies or you'd want to take a swing at him. He had a personality one did not soon forget!

Throughout his adult life he enjoyed various hobbies. He was a voracious reader and loved to share his knowledge with anyone and everyone he met - whether you wanted to hear it or not. He shared his love of records with his family. Some favorites were Elvis, Paul McCartney and Wings and Bruce Springsteen. He could be found on the phone with "Cousin Bob" laughing hysterically into the night. He loved animals. He enjoyed watching sunsets with his dog and rescuing and aiding in the rehabilitation of his many feline friends.

He was obsessed with model trains. Family in tow, he attended every train show in the Cleveland area and many that could be driven to in nearby cities and states. He became a member of the Lake Shore Live Steamers train enthusiast group and helped with the gigantic undertaking of building the miniature riding railroad that currently resides at Penitentiary Glen Reservation in Kirtland, OH.

A friend of Bill W., he was active in service to his fellows for over 32 years. His involvement inspired a legacy of recovery and health in his family.

He was father to his two girls Jenifer and Juliet (Lee Nelly). Brother to Glenn Horn (Sandy) and Janet Akers. Grandpa to Brandon Nelly (Maria Nelly), Gabriel Fleming, Gavin Fleming and Desiree Nelly. Great-Grandpa to Logan Fleming, Clayton Fleming and Elliana Nelly. Private family services will be held at a time and location TBD. I went to West Tech and was in Art class with Bill. So sorry to hear of his passing. I had such a crush on him during those years. I married another art classmate Bill was friends with. He was a good artist and a fun guy. Glad to see he had a great life.
