King, William S., Jr.

William S. King, Jr., age 92, of Gulf Hill Road, McLean, NY, passed away Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at the Cayuga Medical Center, Ithaca, NY. Born in Groton, NY on January 8, 1922, he was a life area resident and served in the US Army Air Force in the China-Burma-India Theater during WWII. A 1940 graduate of Groton High School, he was employed for more than 40 years at Smith Corona as a machinist. On September 5, 1942, he was married to the former Ellen Louise Adams, who survives. "Bill" was a member of Groton Lodge #496, F. & A.M. and was active in Boy Scouts having been a Den Father and having served on the local Boy Scout Council. A member of the McLean Community Church since 1960, he had served as a Deacon and on several church committees. Mr. and Mrs. King traveled to 49 states with their motor home and by flying to Hawaii they had visited all 50 states. Recently Bill and Ellen enjoyed a cruise to the Eastern Caribbean. Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Ellen at home; his children, Andrea (Donald) Tomlinson of Buffalo, William Scott King, III of Virgil, Kevin (Lynn) King of Virgil, Kristen (Scott) Blackman of Freeville and Angela (Paul) Davis of Keene, NY; a sister, Phyllis Snyder of North Tonawanda, NY; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Three sisters, Pauline King, Mildred Wickham and Florence Bausch, have passed away. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at the McLean Community Church on Sunday, January 26, 2014, with Rev. David Carter officiating. Burial, delayed until spring, will be in McLean Rural Cemetery. Friends are invited to call from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday at the church prior to the funeral.
