William H. Lawson III

William H. Lawson III, 68, of Terre Haute, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Union Hospital. He was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Brazil, to William H. Lawson II and Hazel Miller Lawson. He was an electrician and worked for Indiana Gas and Chemical until they closed, and then went to work for Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. He married Sharon Bridgewater, and she preceded him in death in 1998.Survivors include a son, Jay Lawson and wife Sheri of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Drew and Will Lawson, both of Terre Haute; two sisters, Carolyn Harney of Brazil, and Elaine Brown of Rockville; three sisters-in-law, Bobbie Capps of Terre Haute, Patricia Jennings, and Rita Carroll, both of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Jim Lawson. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Thomas Funeral Home, 2200 N. 13th St., with the Rev. Ed Gladdish officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is noon until services Saturday.Barbara J. SlavensBarbara J. Slavens, 72, of Terre Haute died at 7 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008, at Terre Haute Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born on Nov. 24, 1935, to Bertrand Wallace and Esther Imo (Metcalf) Price. Survivors include two sons, Donald Ray Slavens of Evansville, and Charles Slavens of Franklin; one daughter, Lee Ann Slavens of Washington; one sister, Sharon Puschaver of Trenton Mich.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; and one sister, Carol Price of Lewis. Graveside services are 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Oak Hill Cemetery, in Riley, with Tim Voll officiating. DeBaun Springhill Chapel assisted with arrangements.
