William C. "Curt" Lowe

November 24, 1947-July 5, 2022

CLINTON-Dr. William C. "Curt" Lowe, age 74 of Clinton, passed away Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at the Alverno. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 at the Pape Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Springdale Cemetery.

Curt was born in Savannah, GA on November 24, 1947, the son of William Robert and Louise Everett Mims (Moore) Lowe, Jr. He served with the US Army Reserves. He received his BA Degree in History from The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA and his PhD in History from Emory University in Atlanta. He taught History and Social Sciences at Auburn University, Marshall University and Black Hawk College before coming to Mt. St. Clare College where he taught until retiring. While at Mt. St. Clare and Ashford University he was the Academic Dean for several years and Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. Curt married Flora Stith on June 14, 1969 in Richmond, VA. Flora passed away on December 7, 2019.

Curt was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and the Sigma Chi Fraternity. He had several articles published in academic journals. He was interested in Iowa Civil War Monuments, especially in other states. Curt and Flora were avid supporters of Mt. St. Clare, the Franciscan University and Ashford athletics and College events. They enjoyed traveling, making 4 trips to England and 2 to Italy. Curt enjoyed was an avid Atlanta sports fan, especially of the Braves. He followed Auburn and Georgia Tech college football. He also enjoyed European football, especially the Fulham Football Club.

Curt is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Lowe of Clinton and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and a grandson, William Gaines. Memorials may be made in Curt's name to The Parkinson's Foundation. Online condolences may be left at www.papefh.com.
