William Luther Corn Jr. Obituary

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday Feb. 13, in the Ward's Funeral Home chapel for William Luther Corn Jr., age 80, of Gainesville. The Rev. Larry Dyer, the Rev. Charles Stanger and the Rev. Jacob Armour will officiate. Interment will follow in Alta Vista Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mr. Corn passed away Friday, Feb. 11, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.

Mr. Corn was born in Hall County to the late William Luther Corn Sr. and Mary Sloan Corn. He grew up in Gainesville Mill and went on to serve in the US Army during the Korean War. After his military service he retired from the US Postal Service. He was a member of The Pentecostal Fire Baptized Holiness Church and had pastured many churches through the years, including five years at Antioch PFB Holiness, nine years at Toccoa PFB Holiness, and 10 years at Athens PFB Holiness. He also preached at a number of other churches, worked with the prison ministry and worked with the Maranatha Ministries. For the past 10 years he spent his time repairing clocks.

Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Betty Jean Collins Corn, Gainesville; son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Linda Corn, Lula; son, Johnny Corn, Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law, Esther Faye Corn Cotton and Scotty Cotton, Maysville; sisters, Margaret Ambellas, Gray, Ga.; Ondie Finley Bailey, Gainesville; Phyllis Warrick, Flowery Branch; and Jewell McGraw, Gainesville; brothers, Derrell Corn, Gainesville; Kenneth Corn, Gainesville; grandchildren, Jonathan L. Corn, Lula; Joshua M. Corn, Lula; Ashley Corn, Flowery Branch; Tristan Corn, Gainesville; Trenton Corn, Gainesville; Luke Cotton, Maysville; Gabe Cotton, Maysville; great-grandson, Coby Carpenter; and many brothers and sisters in Christ, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

There are only a few people in life that you know God has called for a truly special purpose. Dub touched the hearts of many people, some deeper than he could have imagined. I remember listening to him preach and sing, those are times I recall feeling God near. I will not cry for Dub but rather rejoice quitely because I knew him and he is at rest in the Lord.
