MALONEY
William V., Sr., 97, of Allendale, NJ died gently at Allendale Nursing Home in Allendale, NJ on January 11, 2017.
He is survived by his wife of 74 years Gloria and his two devoted children; daughter Sharon DeVries of Woodstock, NY, and her children Dr. Peter DeVries and his wife Ginny of Waynesboro, VA and their children Alex, Kyle and Sean, and Christopher DeVries and his wife Maureen of Upper Saddle River, NJ, and their children Sydney and Teddy; and son William V. of Key Largo, FL and Upper Saddle River, NJ and his departed wife Phyllis Anne and their two loving children Meredith Tedford and her husband Jamie of Marblehead, MA and their children Nathan, Lucy, and Whit; and William Maloney III and his wife Jessica of Piermont, NY, and their children Ruby and Nora.
William was born in Jersey City, NJ in 1919 and lived in Teaneck, Paramus, and Saddle River. In addition to family; business, travel, and yachting defined his life. After World War II where he landed on Omaha Beach on Day 5 of the Normandy Invasion he would come home to continue to sell in front of his apartment in Jersey City used cars and discarded rubber tires that he and his brother began collecting years before sensing the war would make them hard to get and valuable. He would go on to operate multiple used car locations and a financing company to finance the cars he sold. As new cars replaced used cars as the economy recovered from war he found what would become another growth industry, the nursing home and senior living industry. He would go on to build the first brand new nursing home east of the Mississippi River in 1954. That facility Valley, was joined by Dunroven, Pine Rest and The Cupola Senior Residence in Westwood, Cresskill, and Paramus. After selling the healthcare company after 40 years he along with his wife, son and daughter in law would go on to develop several Hilton Hotels including locally the since sold Hilton Woodcliff Lake and the still family managed Hilton Pearl River.
Success in business and life afforded he and his wife the opportunity to travel to over 100 countries around the world. His love of travel and adventure would lead him to own several boats small and large which he used to cruise a dozen times to Florida in fall and back north in spring. In addition he cruised to nearly every island in the Bahamas and Caribbean, doing all his own piloting and navigating.
After having done so much in his life he built homes on the Jersey Shore and Florida Keys where he and his wife loved to entertain friends, his children and grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held at C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood on Friday, January 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Gabriel's R.C. Church in Saddle River, NJ on Saturday, January 14 at 10 AM. William will be entombed at Holy Cross Mausoleum in North Arlington, NJ. www.vanemburgh.com

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Mr Maloney. I came to work for him at Dunroven as a part time receptionist in 1985. Little did I know It would be a career that lasted 28 years until my retirement in 2014. I have so many wonderful memories including the wonderful holiday parties that were hosted by the Maloney's. I am so sorry for your loss. May he RIP.
