William McNeely Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 11 to Aug. 13, 2012.
McNeely, William John "Bill" of Eden Prairie, MN, passed away August 10, 2012 into the arms of the Lord and said a loving goodbye to his three beloved children who were at his side. Bill will be dearly missed and remembered by countless people he touched and influenced during his life. Family, friends, business associates and his many employees will remember Bill's kindness and generosity, loyalty, quick and self-deprecating Irish wit, keen sense of business intuition, and most especially his deep and enduring love for his 3 children (Stacey McNeely, Stefie Orth, and William "Bill Jr" McNeely), son-in-law (Steve Orth), and his 7 beautiful grandchildren (Makenna Borg, Logan Borg, Payton Borg, Keegan Orth, Gavin Orth, Billy and Aria McNeely). Bill is also survived by his 2 loving and close sisters of whom he was so proud (Gretchen Badalich and Helen Taylor) and 6 nieces & nephews (Kevin, Kim, Kellie, John, Ann and Paul). Bill's heartfelt love of God, family, friends and America stemmed from his humble upbringing on a farm in Montrose, MN which shaped his life. He revered what the farm had instilled in him - the foundation for successful future business endeavors. Work ethic, determination, risk-taking, and eternal optimistic spirit for a better day tomorrow belief, and especially his recognized honesty and integrity, were not only admired by his family and friends, but also business colleagues. Small basement office beginnings in Bloomington, MN, commenced Exotic Rubber and Plastics of MN, which now, 36 years later, is nationally recognized as Acrylic Design Associates, a leader within retail store fixture and retail design and display manufacturing. Bill's business philosophy then and now was to offer products and services unlike any other in the industry, and offer only the highest quality and service to the client with unmatched integrity. Bill's high-risk, but skillful approach to business (usually against the advice of his peers) proved successful and today contemporary. People who knew and loved Bill can attest to his special gift of making people feel good about themselves when he was in their presence - the room always brightened when Bill walked in! He loved to sincerely learn of others' lives and families whom he met along his journey in life, but tended to dismiss his own attributes and successes. This was a trait and a reason he was so sincerely charming... Bill's desire to help people through animals was felt in the community and many humane societies throughout the nation felt his generosity and heartfelt love for animals in need. For both families and children with Autism, Bill's fondness and love of specially trained assistance dogs through "Can-Do-Canines" positively changed the lives of numerous children and their families associated with Autism. Thank you Dad, Bill, and dear friend, for all the fond memories we will treasure forever and for a heart and soul that can never be replaced. We will never forget you or your many acts of kindness. We will not forget your special warm laugh, your strong and commanding voice and your smiling Irish blue eyes. You'll be loved going forward as strongly as you were in the past. May you rest in the eternal peace you so rightfully deserve our dear friend. Memorials to Can-Do-Canines, 9440 Science Center Drive, New Hope, MN 55428. Interment: St. Hubert Catholic Cemetery. I was very saddened to learn of the passing of Bill. Over the years, I took care of Bill's dogs, while he traveled. I knew and adored Cody, Ace, Tino, Jack, and Mindy. When I got my own dog/Golden Retriever, I stopped sitting for Bill's dogs, but we did stay in touch. What a wonderful person! I am so very sorry for your loss.

Dear MCneely family
You don't know me but friends of your father told me about his passing. My heartfelt sympathy to your family. My name is Sharon Levitsky and my diabetes assistance dog is Murray whom I believe was sponsored by Mr. MCneely. I just want your family to know how much I appreciate having Murray and how incredible he is and how he has helped me. I have your father to thank for that. I am sorry I never had the opportunity to meet him and thank him personally, but I am so grateful to him for being such an altruistic person and a supporter of Can-do Canines.

The friends of his and mine who told me about him are Babe and Sarah Shragg. Please know that his generous nature is so appreciated.

I extend my sympathy to you and hope and pray that you are finding the strength to face your loss.

Most sincerely,

Sharon Levitsky

Rejoice in the knowledge Bill has a seat in heaven! I have not had contact with Bill for many years and was saddened to see his obituary. In the 60's Bill and I worked together and enjoyed good times together. I always remember our trip to Puerto Rico and the experiences we shared. We faded out of each others life but the time we had together was memorable. His sparkle will continue to give pleasure to our memories. Bless you all.

To the McNeely family: Words cannot express how sorry we are for your loss. I've known Bill for 15 years while helping to care for his beloved Shelties as a technician at Heritage Animal Hospital. He was a great man, will be truly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during your time of sorrow. God bless.

My deepest regards to Stefie, Stacey, Bill Jr. and the Clan McNeely.

I first met Bill Sr. at Kincaid's, across the Lake from their old house. We had many fine chats and formed a friendship that had lasted all these years. We discovered a common bond of one Studebaker truck, one he owned on the farm in Montrose. A truck he picked Joan Growe up in for a date, many years ago. Bill was like a second father figure to me, always wanted to know what was going on in my life. Now, having lost my own father in March, I feel for the family as they have lost theirs as well. I feel the loss as well and give my warmest regards, for Bill was a treasure. He will no doubt live on in many hearts, memories and minds. We were blessed to have Bill in our lives, in whatever capacity. Take that thought forward, and cherish the ones we have left to hold. You are his namesake, so make a difference today, for Bill.

Bill was funny, flinty, colorful and wise. He lived the American Dream on his own terms; exactly the way he did everything else.

Our hearts ache for his kids and can't imagine the void left by a man who loved his family so enormously.

Still, it's hard to mourn for Bill himself. He knew God, he was adored and he truly, truly Lived. We are blessed to have known him, cry over his loss and can't help but grin at his memory.

Bill remains in the hearts of everyone who knew him. What a wonderful legacy.

To Bill Jr, Stephanie,Stacy

Your dad loved you so much, I can't begin to tell you proud he was of each of you. This started over thirty years ago, when I was a banker at the First National Bank of Edina.
He was a great friend to me, when I needed him most.
Your family will be in my prayers tonight, and each night going forward.
