William E. McQueeney, 88, of Woburn, formerly of Arlington and Sudbury, died peacefully at home after a lengthy illness. Born in Boston on July 27, 1935, Bill was the son of William and Helen (Mountain) McQueeney. Bill is survived by his loving wife Jane (Beggan/Goodwin) of 32 years, his son Michael and his wife Barbara, his daughter Maureen and her husband Kevin, his stepson David and his wife Nancy, his stepdaughter Jennifer and her husband Gregg and his stepson Jonathan and his wife Allison. He was the devoted Grampy of Madeleine, Ryan, Carolyn, Shannon, Taylor, Andrew, Connor, Reid, Jane and Addison. Bill was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, his sister Anne and his granddaughter Catherine. Bill is also survived by several brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and many, many friends.
Bill attended Boston College High School, where he was later honored as an alumnus with the St. Ignatius Award; Boston College, where for many years Bill lead the Class of 1957; and MIT, where he received an Executive MBA. Bill was a seasoned executive in many large electronics and semiconductor firms. He was a master consultant and respected senior manager. Bill's greatest love, however was Service. In his later years of employment and then well into his retirement Bill founded Rural Water Ventures, a nonprofit whose mission was to bring gravity-flow drinking water systems to remote villages in Nicaragua. He was quite devoted to this work and to the people of Nicaragua, whose lives he transformed. Bill was also very active with Voice of the Faithful and a passionate member of Edwards Church where he served on the Finance Committee.
Bill was an avid athlete and huge sports fan. Bill loved baseball, catching for Boston College as well as for the Harwich Mariners of the Cape Cod Baseball League. He also spent many years as a hockey referee which he immensely enjoyed. Bill loved cheering on his BC teams, especially football and hockey where he was a longtime season ticket holder. He was also seen on the sidelines, in the stands and on the shore watching his beloved grandchildren compete. Bill was an avid Brewers, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Patriots fan. He was a global traveler, enjoying many professional and personal adventures around the world. Bill loved spending summers in Brewster, kayaking on the ponds, attending Cape Cod Baseball League games and picnicking and toe tapping at Brewster band concerts. Bill impacted so many lives and leaves behind a legacy of generosity and a commitment to serving others.
The family invites friends and loved ones to pay their respects during visiting hours on Thursday, June 6th from 4:00-7:00pm at Keefe Funeral Home, 5 Chestnut St.,
Arlington, MA. A Memorial Service celebrating Bill's life will be held on Friday, June 7th at 10:00am at Edwards Church, 39 Edwards St. in the Saxonville section of Framingham, MA. The service will be live-streamed for those who cannot attend in person. The Zoom link is
