WILLIAM McELWEE, JR.
Of Princeton, New Jersey, died on September 27, 2017, at Princeton Care Center, at the age of ninety-one. William was born on March 30, 1926 in Meshed, Iran. He graduated from Choate School in 1944, then spent six years in the Naval Air Force aboard the USS Kearsarge. William received his BA degree in History from Princeton University in 1953, a Bachelor of Sacred Theology degree from New York Theological Seminary in 1956, and a Master of Theology degree in 1964 from Princeton Theological Seminary. In 1967 William became President of Aereon Corporation and oversaw the construction and testing of the prototype aerobody, Aereon 26. Manned test flights were successfully completed in 1971. William was inducted into the Aviation Hall of Fame of New Jersey in 2016. William was a member of the Board of Trustees of Scripture Union USA, and also participated in the Children's Sand and Surf Mission. William is survived by his sister Margaret A. Weir of Brighton, England, and by many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grandnephews, friends and colleagues. Services will be held on Nov. 4, 2017, at Nassau Presbyterian Church in Princeton. Burial will be at West Laurel Hill Cemetery. Donations in William's memory should be sent to Scripture Union USA, Valley Forge, PA.
