William Moore Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 20, 2023.
William Henry Moore died on November 7, 2023 due to unexpected surgical complications.

To be clear, he did not lose the battle with cancer because it was never a fair fight. He chose hope over despair; mental and physical grit over surrender. He adopted a remarkably stoic philosophy, letting go of petty grievances and embracing a peaceful acceptance for things he couldn't change.

If you were lucky enough to know Bill as a co-worker then you know he pursued every program and project with a relentless drive for excellence and innovation. In over 40 years in the aerospace industry, he was an amazing mentor, a trusted colleague and just really damn good at his job.

If you were lucky enough to know Bill as a friend then you know, as smart as he was, he was also goofy as hell. He made a mean margarita and danced to Earth, Wind & Fire like nobody was watching. He could recite entire episodes of The Ren & Stimpy Show but also quote Richard Feynman with equal accuracy and enthusiasm.

If you were lucky enough to know Bill as a husband, dad, brother or uncle, you knew his love for his family was fierce and boundless. From the base camp of Everest with Jack to the bike trails of Bryce Canyon to Zion with Zoe to diving the reefs off West Palm Beach with Natalie, he never stopped exploring and never stopped learning. He became a notary so he could officiate his niece Noelle's wedding and he was so honored by the role. He practiced his speech and timing for hours on end, making his family so proud.

The next time you look up at the night sky and see a spectacularly bright star, it's Bill. Raise a glass or say a prayer but however you choose to honor him, just know you're likely to be a better person because you knew him.

Bill is survived by his wife Amy, his son Jack, his daughters Zoe and Natalie, his brothers Toby and Sean, and his sister Sophia.

A celebration of life will be planned at the beginning of the year to honor Bill's remarkable life and achievements. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Sarcoma Foundation of America or the Trails Foundation of Northern Utah.

I met Bill when I first arrived in Utah to support the Sentinel program. We immediately connected over the Apollo program (Earth to the Moon) and the Phoenix project. As our relationship grew, we bonded over program activities and approaches, Dev*, and the day-to-day activities needed to support the program. Bill and I liked to tag up at the end of the day to tell each other to "Go Home!" I miss him every day and still keep his chemo schedule on my bulletin board as a reminder to stand strong in the face of adversity and to never give up! Bill and I discovered we were perfect ski partners - we liked a challenge but not that big of a challenge, we liked to stop for lunch, and liked the same type of ski runs! The photo is one with Francisco and it was truly the best ski day ever!

I had the pleasure of working with Bill at Northrop Grumman on several projects. I resonated with Bill as soon as I met him. We both shared a positive outlook about the future. Fly high my friend and rest in peace.
